Im default mode, replies are indented. I can barely read the reply subject as the thread grows. The left bar plus the indentation squeezes the subject line.

(82,930 posts)I just sent screenshots via email. It is loading the left bar on landscape and not loading it on portrait. One solution is to not load the left bar on mobile, but I don't know if that works for you.

(22,540 posts)So after reading your emaill, this is an interesting development. You see, I hate to admit it but I'd actually forgotten that Classic mode exists on DU3.
Classic mode was a sort of legacy design that we created when we switched from DU2 to DU3, just about eleven years ago. The idea at the time -- as with Skinner Mode this time around -- was to create a layout which people would feel comfortable with if they preferred the old layout to the new one. We've had it in place for all this time, but it didn't occur to me that anyone was still using it.
So that explains the confusion over indentation. DU3's default layout has had indentation for the last decade, and I used the DU3 default layout as the basis for DU4.
As for the landscape mode changes on your phone, this is a bit of a compromise. As I've mentioned elsewhere, DU4 has a responsive layout which means that the underlying HTML remains the same, while various media queries in the stylesheets change the look of the page depending on the size of the screen.
You can see this in effect on a desktop browser by starting with a maximized window which at its largest size will show the "desktop" layout, and if you drag the window size smaller, you'll see it automatically cycle through "laptop" layout, then "tablet" layout, then "mobile" layout.
You can also see it by changing your phone's orientation from portrait to landscape. The thing is, that depending on the size of the phone screen, there is some overlap between "tablet" and "mobile". Since holding a phone horizontally is not the most optimal way of browsing DU, I haven't spent as much time on that particular layout (at one point I even considered forcing the layout to remain in portrait only, but decided against it) which is why mobile landscape is currently a bit of a mashup between mobile and tablet.
That's why you get things like the left column showing up in landscape mode, because the left column needs to show up on tablet. Unfortunately, it might have to stay that way if removing it in mobile landscape also means having to remove it in tablet. But I'll see what I can do.
So bottom line, if you're using mobile landscape, I still have work to do on that layout which is why you're likely to see more issues with it than with any of the other layouts. That said, it's good that you are able to give me this feedback, because that means I can work on fixes.

(82,930 posts)I forgot that anyone was looking at DU any other way. I like the classic modes because it makes everything wide. I usually scroll through in landscape.
By the way, I found another bug. Im currently kn dark mode in portrait. I wanted to reply to your post. The recommend button is stepping on the reply button.
