So, I clicked on "My stuff" since it showed me there was something new for me to see.

This discussion thread was locked by EarlG (a host of the DU4 Bug Reports forum).

But nothing was marked on the other tabs. How do I find what my stuff is trying to tell me?

It seems odd that nothing shows up, even when My Stuff says something needs my attention.

TIA!

and see that you haven't turned off all the settings. You can turn some off and leave others and the drop-down menu allows you to select from flashing to solid to something in between on the notifications, but check them all. If MyStuff was lit or flashing and you hit it, something/some tab should have had a notification associated.

EarlG has given us more options on how we see these notifications and in some cases whether we see them at all, so it is probably just that a feature is toggled to 'off'.

4. Just to be clear on that

There are three types of notifications that the My Stuff button will glow for. These are:

1) New posts from your Subscriptions
2) New replies to you
3) New DU Mail messages in your inbox

The new options in Account Settings do indeed allow you to turn those notifications off individually. But to be clear, that's so you aren't interrupted by the My Stuff button glowing for a notification you're not bothered about receiving. All it does is prevent the My Stuff button from glowing for that notification.

If you get a notification for something that you've turned off, the My Stuff button will not glow -- but the appropriate button inside the My Stuff menu will still show as solid yellow, just so you're aware that there's something new there.

Hypothetical situation: you have Subscriptions notifications turned off, and Replies and Mail notifications turned on.

If you receive a new reply or a new mail message, the My Stuff button will glow. Clicking the My Stuff button should then show you either the Posts or Inbox button (or both) also glowing.

If you receive a new Subscription, the My Stuff button will NOT glow. But if you happen to click the My Stuff button after receiving a new Subscription, the Subscriptions button will be displayed as solid yellow.

(Also to be clear, we are still troubleshooting this so it might not work quite right 100% of the time at the moment.)

3. If nothing was lit up inside the My Stuff menu

then you didn't actually have any new items to be notified about.

This can happen occasionally if you switch tabs or use your browser's back button -- you may have had notifications previously which you clicked through to, but if you then back up, the My Stuff button might recall the state it was in previously and light up even though you already cleared the notification.

Or, if you switch tabs, the My Stuff button might already be lit up from a previous page load, but when you open the menu the interior buttons won't be lit up because you already cleared out those notifications.

Currently this is in the "minor annoyance" category because a) it's relatively rare, and b) improving performance in this area will require a lot of technical shenanigans which we don't really want to delve into at the moment (since we're focusing on more big picture stuff).

So in a nutshell, hopefully this won't happen very often and you won't find it too bothersome. If it ends up being a big problem, we'll definitely look into it more closely.
