In Iowa, Beto O'Rourke says non-union members should pay union dues

Workers represented by unions should pay bargaining fees regardless of whether they decide to be union members, Beto O’Rourke said in Des Moines on Monday.

More than 150 people came to the United Steel Workers Local 310 to hear the El Paso Democrat speak in an event hosted by the Asian and Latino Coalition, a part of his five-day trip across the state.

Daniel Garza, a union pipefitter, asked O’Rourke if he would commit to a federal "fair share law," which he said would give unions the power to collect money from non-union members for the work of collective bargaining.

"Everyone needs to pay into the benefits that they gain as a result of those who are willing to organize and fight," O'Rourke answered.
