Biden 2020
Related: About this forumI think President Obama needs to start taking an active role in this Primary.
Indirectly, or directly. He could start by giving a speech in SC about Russian interference, Republican manipulations, and take on the idea of Socialism in America.

The socialism label is a political liability, and it isnt his job to explain it or defend it. That is for those who want to carry it

(11,472 posts)Once the nominee is chosen, regardless of the outcome, Obama's clout will be needed to heal and bring together. Depending on who our nominee is, that might be too late in the greater scheme of things. The former First Family went all out for 2016, backing and rallying for HRC after the primary was closed. But the Repugs still managed to tilt the table.
Barack Obama has always been cognizant of how his words could be perceived as putting his thumb on the scale. This time I really wish he would but I seriously doubt it.

(2,724 posts)He didn't want to put his thumb on the scale then either.
But these are not normal times. Certain political protocols carried out in the past, shouldn't apply during these dire times under Trump, who doesn't function as a normal President. Obama is wise and he can find a way to nudge the electorate without being too direct. He has a way with words and if anyone can thread that needle, he can. But will he? I wish that he would.

(11,472 posts)I would like to see him give a subtle but understandable nudge to the proceedings because you're so right:
These are not normal times and this is not a normal election. There's just too much at risk to screw around. I positively cringe when I hear people say: Well, this year I'm voting my heart rather than my head.
If there's one election cycle when Dems needs to play the game smart, even ruthless, it's 2020.
Otherwise?
We're turning the country over to the alt-right jackals and vultures. God help us all!
