Elizabeth Warren for VP, please

I hope the Democratic Party will choose a VP for Biden who will be a real helpmate,
Please don't use race, gender, geography, etc. as the main criterion.
We need the most qualified person in case he/she needs to step up if something happens to the President.
In my opinion that would be Elizabeth Warren. She has been doing her homework all along. She has a plan for everything.

Here’s the problem for Democrats: Both Massachusetts and Vermont have Republican governors who have the power to name a temporary replacement to fill Warren’s or Sanders’ vacant Senate seat with a Republican replacement. (Vermont’s governor, Phil Scott, is up for re-election in 2020.)

Then there’s the delay: Under Massachusetts state law, the governor must call for a special election 145 to 160 days after the vacancy — which means a Democrat, if he or she wins the special election, might not claim the Senate seat until months after a Warren presidency begins.

Being temporarily without a Democratic senator in Massachusetts or Vermont could endanger the new president getting Cabinet secretaries confirmed and early legislative priorities passed.

It also could postpone Democrats taking control of the Senate — if they net the three Senate seats needed to flip the chamber, but briefly lose either Massachusetts or Vermont.

And then there’s the potential worst-case scenario: While Democrats would be favored to win the eventual special election in either of these deep-blue states, it was less than a decade ago when Republican Scott Brown won a special Senate election in Massachusetts after Ted Kennedy died in Barack Obama’s first year as president.

We are now watching a bunch of senior citizens running for President, when persons that age in other professions are enjoying their golden years and retirement. Warren is 70 NOW. It’s time to develop a new generation of Democrats. The future is Kamala Harris, Andrew Cuomo, Peter Butigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Gretchen Whitmer, Corey Booker, and any number of up-and-coming Democrats that will not be approaching 75-80 by the next two Presidential elections.

37. We need new blood going forward.

The goal currently is to restore normalcy to the Whitehouse. Biden is thought to be a sure thing to do that by many, including myself, notwithstanding his age. He is a known commodity, whose more centrist policies are favored by most of the Party (check the primary results) and are at least tolerable to independent voters and some never-Trump Republicans. This is the coalition necessary to guarantee the defeat of Trump. I can see Biden loading his Cabinet from the new generation of Democrats and then standing aside in 2024 so they can lead the party and compete for the Presidency. Going forward, we need new and more youthful (relatively) Democratic leadership and younger candidates, and not candidates in their 70s and 80s.

6. I like Elizabeth as she has great qualities

The Bernie supporters would flock to Elizabeth, which is a good thing. The problem is, the primary voters were solidly behind Joe, and the general election voters who count ( the independents) do NOT want anyone who is blowing the horn for what they perceive as socialism. We have a capitalist system with a balance of socialism already ( medicare, social security, medicaid etc), but the republicans will completely distort the facts and proclaim that Elizabeth will never stop pushing for issues that will cost huge bucks, even if they are good ideas.

Look at Wisconsin. Most, if not virtually all Democrats will vote this cycle just to remove Trump, irrespective of the Democratic Candidate. Sure there are some who will gripe about Bernie not winning the primary and some of his supporters are threatening not to vote. But it will be a very slim number. I personally think Biden does best with Whitmer as his running mate. Whitmer can help to deliver a battleground State, and is not another Democrat from the Northeast. But Biden already committed to a female minority, and I can see him going with Stacey Abrams or Kamala Harris.

Also, Warren is productive in the Senate. Would we want to risk losing her seat when we have a solid shot of gaining a majority? Keep in mind that Massachusetts gave us Mitt Romney, and elected Republican Charlie Baker as it’s current Governor. I like the sure thing.

The early days of an administration are essential...must get off to a good start and the Senate remains difficult for us. EW was my second choice but we need her in the Senate right now. And Mass has elected GOP types before...sorry, this is a bad idea.

He wants a partner, someone who is not too far from him policy-wise. Biden and Warren have some not insignificant policy differences.

Also, Biden needs someone younger than 70 and (preferably) someone who appeals to African Americans, who were/are his base, and/or working class white voters, who might help turn PA/MI/WI. Warren turns 71 later this year and, in her own presidential run, showed no particular strength among either group.

She checks off the experience boxes (senator, director of an executive agency, seasoned campaigner, and well-studied in economic issues).

She has progressive bonafides that helps balance Biden.

A concern I hear a lot is that Biden and Warren both coming from the Northeast, but I don't think regions matter as much anymore. It's about overarching narratives, experiences, and skillsets. Clinton and Gore were from neighboring states. Obama didn't pick Biden because he really needed the Delaware vote.

And even though Warren is over 70, she is youthful, energetic, and manages to strike the balance of being a pleasant attack dog. Also, I can't wait to see her debate Pence, because he'll have to talk one-on-one with a woman

Above all, Biden needs to pick someone who is qualified and EXCITING. Warren and Harris fit that bill most in my mind. We really need good turnout in the fall, and the race isn't going to be won simply by saying, "Oh, the independents will come over. Surely everyone can see by now what a dumbass Donald Trump is by this point, right?"

I have a hard time seeing Biden generating enthusiasm. I know a lot of DUers take umbrage with that fact: "What do you mean Biden won't excite people? *I* am very excited to have a competent president." Sorry, that's just not the narrative of Biden, and his success will be in spite of the perception of him.

The VP nominee needs to be someone who will help to flip a swing state. Warren and Harris both come from solid blue states so they are poor choices.

Minnesota is a solid blue state that hasn’t voted for a Republican for President since 1972. And she won’t help flip a swing state like Florida or North Carolina. She is less liberal than Biden so she won’t help attract progressive voters, at least Warren would help with that. Nor will she help energize the African American vote which Harris would help with. Of the former primary female candidates she is the worst choice.

That's not how it works... is it? To the best of my knowledge, it's the nominee (ie: BIDEN) who makes the choice of the one to become HIS running mate.

I fully believe that it was never Biden's intention to serve more than one term. For that reason, it is vital that he select someone who will still be as with it twelve years from now as she is today, and he knows it.

I don't want Warren as VP, not least due to the temporary period when a vacant Massachusetts Senate seat would be in Republican hands. Biden needs to hit the ground running. There is a half century's worth of damage control that needs to be addressed in about two years. We can't afford to let Charlie Baker appoint a Republican Senator for the first 180 days of a Biden Administration. That could end up making McTurtle majority leader for the first six months of a Biden Administration.

If Warren wants to go for Senate majority leader, I think she would be perfect for the post. She would certainly wield a lot more power that the Vice-President, something that I'm sure the Biden camp is well aware of.

It's funny, back in December, when I was still mourning Jay Inslee's poor showing, a Republican strategist from Florida asked me my prediction for the Democratic ticket. Not preference, mind you, but only prediction, and that was Biden-Klobuchar, a view that few shared at the time. Why a Republican strategist was interested in MY humble opinion, I can't say. Residents of Düsseldorf don't tend to be among the most quoted of Democratic pundits. But if I turn out to be right, you can bet she'll ask me a bunch of other stuff this coming December, and I'm sure I'll wrong about 99% of them!
