How is what's happening in Wisconsin not like Bloody Sunday?

They're both about minorities trying to exercise their right to vote. They're both about right-wingers trying to keep minorities from exercising their right to vote. They're both outrages, affronts to human dignity and decency. While watching people on TV standing in line in Milwaukee for hours waiting to vote, I keep thinking about the billy clubs and tear gas on the Edmund Pettus bridge. Except this time it's not billy clubs and tear gas, but ... something else.

in an attempt to gain enough power to move to the real thing.

They're trying to keep Democrats and left-leaning indies from voting in order to complete a takeover that's been going on for decades and took a giant leap forward in 2016. It would be a dreadful mistake to imagine the giant battle between liberal egalitarian government and conservative authoritarian government as bigotry directed against minority groups, although that's of course horribly real also.
