Thomas B. Modly is an American businessman and government official who has served as Acting United States Secretary of the Navy since November 24, 2019.

Modly, who was confirmed as the United States Under Secretary of the Navy on December 4, 2017, performed the duties of the Secretary of the Navy while Richard V. Spencer was Acting Secretary of Defense and Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense from July 15, 2019, to July 31, 2019

Getting sick of this shit. What the hell happened to Senate confirmation??? Used to be that you would only appoint people to an administration as an "acting" whatever during a recess or during a sudden absence, and then install somebody a little more permanent as soon as you could and get him or her through a formal confirmation process.

The biggest culprit of all is the Acting President...who's doing a piss-poor job of pretending to be a real POTUS.

At first I thought maybe he was outta line for going outside the chain of command, but when I read another poster's input that he's been trying for a full week to get some resolution then I think he did the right thing and risked retaliation for the welfare of the men and women serving on his ship. I can only imagine how low morale must be among that crew right about now. Their commander stuck his neck out for them and he promptly gets it chopped clean off.

I'm not impressed that Modly is an Annapolis grad. Not everybody who comes out of one of the military academies is an honorable person. As Exhibit A I would like to submit one Mike Pompeo...West Point grad and one of Trump's biggest subservient scumbags.

A captain's FIRST responsibility is to his crew. In this case, Brett Crozier had tried for a week to get the NAVY/DoD/Pentagon to get off their sorry asses and get health care to the sick Sailors on the Teddy Rose. When a week passed and NOTHING happened, Captain Crozier did the thing he knew he needed to do or else face an entire ship of sick and dying Sailors, he allowed his plea to see the light of day. He knew full well that his career was over the minute that happened, but his choice was an easy one of moral and ethical leadership --- and THAT'S what we want in out ship commanders.

You did the right thing, Sir. And every Black Shoe NAVY Sailor would agree. You put the life of your crew above the politics of Washington. No doubt that effort will reduce the number of lost souls from the Teddy Rose.

Bravo Zulu, Captain Brett Crozier. I salute you. Your Sailors will do the same. It came at a high price to you, Sir, but you saved lives. And that's what leadership is all about.

Didn’t see. Was it the Truman or other ship named after a democrat? It’s just a matter of time till the rethugs try to name a carrier after the orange draft dodging coward. You heard it here first.

Because Spencer showed a little backbone and displayed some honor over the shameful SEAL situation? Modly coulda done the exact same thing instead of bowing meekly to the Fuhrer.

Biden could put together one helluva great administration next January just by hiring all the honorable people who resigned or were fired by Drumpf and his asskissers.

he has great admiration for this captain who put the welfare of his crew above his career knowing he lost every chance he had of becoming an admiral.

He also said the next administration should make him Secretary of the Navy

I think this decision was God awful. However, my husband who served in the Navy wasn't surprised. He predicted this Captain's career was over because those higher on the food chain do not like being publicly embarrassed. "Doesn't matter if the Captain's decision was morally right or not," my husband said. "The Brass will drop a load of bricks on his head. It's the prevailing culture."

Sadly, he was right.
