Report: Biden's final five will include Harris, Klobuchar, Warren

“Not one of the top Biden associates I spoke with in the last week had much doubt where he would ultimately focus a lot of his eventual vetting: his former rivals Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Amy Klobuchar. Realistically, a congressman close to the Biden inner circle predicted, no matter what happens, ‘the final five will include those three.’”

“Keeping in mind his own experience and his age, the former veep, 77, has always insisted to friends that his running mate must be ready to be president. But people close to him say he has recently become increasingly explicit that he may be choosing his own replacement, and that the candidates’ competence is now likely to be front and center in his considerations.”

Imagine having three such wonderfully qualified choices?

My gut, for what it's worth, still says Amy. She has shown an ability to step up to the situation and overperform. Or maybe I'm just choosing the one with the loudest voice, which, like it or not, is important in a campaign.

Forget the crap about motivating the base or expanding the playing field. We need to double down on the midwest. Nothing else matters in the slightest.

We are still severely underestimating how problematic those states are. White moderate swing voters will decide those states. There won't be an avalanche of turnout to the rescue.

I have hosted enough debate watching parties to know how Amy Klobuchar would be received by that type of voter as opposed to a barker like Kamala Harris.

Deny or ignore that at our own risk

I do hope it is not Klobuchar - for several reasons. She is not an strong environmentalist (she voted for Polymet mining - next door to the Boundary Waters), she is way too considerate of corporate interests, and also very much a hawk. I know that being a war-hawk is the usual stance for the majority of our national leaders, but I would like that to diminish - seriously get less as American moves from being a major Super-Power to an equal member of the world community.
Warren would make an awesome President (in the event that Joe doesn't finish his term, or chooses not to stand for a second term, however, maybe she would make an even more awesome Speaker of the Senate. Just imagine that energy, that positively, that clarity as Speaker. What a contrast with our current dystopian holder and in-actor of, what has turned out to be, the most powerful position in our government.
Of the three top choices, I would go for Harris. Given that it is way beyond time to have a women on the winning ticket, I also think it has to be a women of color - either African-American or Latinx. Both constituencies are strong Dem supporters, in particular the former, and this, in my opinion, has to be recognized, publicly recognized, action-taken recognized.
Would love Stacey Abrams too, even with her "lack of experience" (when has that stopped anyone from being elected - witness the current debacler and debaser of the Presidency). She is a vibrant, knowledgeable, indefatigable and inspiring speaker. She is a worker. And she is Progressive.
It is so great to have such a plethora of talent to choose from.

Whoever Biden ends up choosing there's gonna be some disappointment here as everybody seems to have their own personal favorite. But they'll just have to momentarily vent and then just accept it and close ranks ASAP. Trust Joe to pick a VP that he believes is most ready to be POTUS and whom he feels most comfortable working with. If you can't trust him to even pick a running mate then I'm not sure why you'd trust him to do anything else.

Never woulda bet that Warren was one of the top 10 most unpopular Senators.

Anyway, there are 3 Gopper ones on that list that are all up for reelection so I hope that's 3 seats right there that we can pick up.

A 4th one is McConnell but that would just be too delicious to come true.

I am thinking Gov Whitmir might be better. We have to have Michigan and she should help with the other nearby states that we also need to win.

All are excellent choices

Yet, in this moment, we need Elizabeth Warren.

I did not think that a month ago.

It is obvious to me now. We will have to save Main Street and Senator Warren has multiple plans for that and can improvise rationally and effectively on the fly, in a crisis or even with green eggs and ham.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
