Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumDear President Biden, Be Bold. Don't fall for the "okie-doke".
Republican presidents always seem to leave a steaming pile of sh&%t that a Democratic president has to spend his first term cleaning up. In fact, a Democratic president only gets 2 years to turn America into one giant Disneyland before Republicans re-take the congress and shut down all legislation.
President Biden, don't fall for the trap. Be bold in your first two years. You will have a Democratic congress behind your back. Use it! Push through landmark legislation on healthcare, climate change, education, infrastructure, etc.
Most importantly, do not fall for the bullshit about the national debt. This country will be in a near depression, if not a full depression, when you take office. It will not be a time to balance the books. Balancing the budget makes no economic nor political sense. Clinton balanced the budget in his first term, and he lost the congress. He left office with a budget surplus which didn't help Gore at all. NO REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT HAS LEFT OFFICE WITHOUT GROWING THE SIZE OF THE DEBT/DEFICIT. So, fuck them when they start crying about it.
More, in a depression, people cut back on spending which is why the government has to spend to make up for the shortfall in demand. Government spending to build up our infrastructure and fight climate change not only boosts the economy, but pays for itself for years with increased consumption.
Listen, I know that the Joe Scarborough/deficit scold class will be out in force, begging you to cut entitlements, but do not listen to them. Cutting entitlements during a severe economic down turn will lose you the congress real soon, and then it's 2 years of investigations of Hunter Biden and SCOTUS seats sitting empty.
Be bold, sir. It's the only path forward.

(16,254 posts)His hands are going to be tied on repealing what Trump has removed, let alone new programs. Trump has done SO much damage, it will take much longer than 4 years to correct. If a lot of the Republican congresscritters had more backbone than money in the bank, we'd be in a lot better condition, but greed makes strange bedfellows and they glommed onto anything offered to sway their opinions.
We are leaving a terrible situation for our children and grandchildren.

(11,472 posts)Once the GOP leaves office, the Democratic Party and our POTUS are invariably left to clean up the mess Republicans have left behind. Biden will have a huge challenge on his hands, one that he's uniquely qualified to handle. He's seen all this before over a long career. Putting back the pieces is going to require patience and a steely determination so we can get on to the urgent needs of the country. I have faith that Joe Biden will assemble an excellent, experienced team, an all hands on deck approach.
We're going to win this thing for the country and our citizens. Clean it up, fumigate, restore and march forward.
It's within our reach now. Saving the Republic is no small thing. Joe Biden will step up to the plate the way FDR did, gazing across a wasteland, seeing nothing but unique possibility, and then rolling his sleeves up, getting down to the grueling work.
We can do this!
