Related: About this forum45 praises WALMART as patriotic?
Trump's praise of Walmart during his overlong bullshit press conference is disgusting, imo.
I hope Joe is aware.
For all Americans know, much of what the Walmart family imports from China is contaminated by coronavirus. If its products are not, why are we told to sanitize surfaces, wear rubber gloves in pubic settings, along with washing hands? Coronavirus can exist on inanimate surfaces for up to nine days, according to medical experts.
Not one question was directed to the Walmart spokesman about this.
Drive through testing? That's the least Walmart can do.
Giving Walmart parking lots to the poor to park in? They've already done that for years.
For all we know, Walmarts are becoming coronavirus hotspots across this country.
I'd be surprised if Walmart stores are not exposure sites.

(2,657 posts)coronavirus (COID-19) can live on cardboard for 24 hours and plastic and steel for 3 days. If you have a source for it being able to live on a surface for 9 days, would you please let me know what it is?

(38,380 posts)From another:
It is safe to receive letters or packages from China, according to the World Health Organization. Previous research has found that coronaviruses don't survive long on objects such as letters and packages. Based on what we know about similar coronaviruses such as MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV, experts think this new coronavirus likely survives poorly on surfaces.
A past study found that these related coronaviruses can stay on surfaces such as metal, glass or plastic for as long as nine days, according to a study published Feb. 6 in The Journal of Hospital Infection. But the surfaces present in packaging are not ideal for the virus to survive.
For a virus to remain viable, it needs a combination of specific environmental conditions such as temperature, lack of UV exposure and humidity a combination you won't get in shipping packages, according to Dr. Amesh A. Adalja, Senior Scholar, Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, who spoke with Live Science's sister site Tom's Hardware.

It's good judgment for leadership not to promote the biggest importer and distributor of Chinese goods in America.
Even most Americans are asking themselves about why he thinks donating parking lot space, something Walmart's done to get travel campers' business for years, should be considered "patriotic." His very word.

That nothing was said about that shows a lack of due diligence toward the Walmart consumer.
My issue is mostly with that and the president's decision to make them a major distributor of the tests, therefore "patriots."
I've only stepped into a Walmart once in my life, and only out of necessity.

(38,380 posts)There are 20 machines at a biotech company that make thousands and thousands of tests they send to over 30 countries. But this company has to wait until the end of this month to get FDA approval to distribute those tests in the USA.
These tests' results come in one hour, so it's possible that they could be distributed through Walmart. How they'd work it wasn't explained. Though I'm sure Walmart will make huge national announcements. The Waltons aren't rich for nothing.

(58,785 posts)(I'm among them--waaaaaaaaaay too big) might remember that Walmart -- on its own -- sent trucks full of relief supplies to devastated Louisiana and other Gulf areas. This was as the state government was failing and the federal government under W/Repubs was refusing.
And the media were completely lacking in the self-serving "nothing will every be the same again -- for YOU" noise they swamped the nation with for months after 911 threatened their own cushy NYC lifestyles.
Oh, and while we're at it, let's not forget, while Walmart was bringing relief to the devastation zone, those nice citizens who blocked a bridge and threatened to shoot desperate people trying to leave NOLA to find water, food, medical care, diapers, and so on. Or that most of us sat around and tsked-tsked at the pictures of people begging for assistance, maybe texted our congressmen, instead of taking to the streets ourselves.
