(59,923 posts)It is a list of Democratic principles that BOTH believe in and have for generations. However, they are phrased just as to represent Sanders position rejecting any other plan.
Some are ridiculous - probably the worst is his point on climate change. I know that many activists reject anything but the Green New Deal, which Sanders supports. His explanation of how he would get this - and other things passed - is to refer to his revolution. That revolution was MIA last Tuesday and the Tuesday before. It also is a strawman that needs to be rejected because it attacks most of the people who have worked hard on this issue - including the Obama administration.
I would suggest that Sanders should listen to any John Kerry speech on this. He is every bit as concerned as the most concerned activist, but he is far more knowledgeable on solutions because he has worked with the scientists on this for decades. (Dr Moniz did not meet him when they were both in Obama's cabinet - he was a 2004 and before Kerry adviser.) In addition, he was an essential person in getting the Paris Accord. He admitted before it was signed that it was not enough, but the hope was it would get the entire world moving in the right direction and not stronger could be agreed to. Frankly ALL Biden would need to do to convince me on this issue is for him to list people like Kerry, Moniz, Gina McCarthy and Lisa Jackson(Obama EPA) AND Ed Markey, the Senate sponsor of the Green New Deal.

In fact, if history has taught us anything, depending on the followers of the Independent Senator from Vermont to cast a vote for the Democratic nomination of the loyal and true Democrat, Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. is folly.
I personally do not count on their support.

(41,303 posts)4 years ago the politics of the election were very different. Bernie got a lot of mileage because of the negative view so many (unfairly) had about Hillary Clinton. 4 years ago the country had not had a front row seat to the utter incompetence and madness of Trump. It is very different now. People are afraid of Trump now. And Bernie has worn out his welcome with voters, even with some who voted for him in 2016.

This won't be a 2016 repeat. Everyone still needs to be all hands on deck though. It's not easy ousting an incumbent.

(37,749 posts)they don't see it that way--i.e., that had they voted for Hillary, we wouldn't have trump.
Indeed, there are even electoral studies that show that would not have been the case, but that's irrelevant in the face of the emotional need for a scapegoat.
I think some BS supporters might see that the party failed to learn a lesson and all indications are they are going to fail a second time. There are a certain percentage of these supporters that will not do what Bernie will ask of them, which is to vote for whomever is the nominee.
Long term, this most likely is going to end with a third party being formed. That is if the two parties fail to survive past the meltdown of the corona virus, which is a distinct possibility. Even if the third party is not successful in its first efforts to elect a president or gain seats in the Senate or House, it will still have considerably more clout than operating within the Democratic party.
There's yet another possibility, and that is that the Democratic nominee will enact Bernie's programs. Whether it happens soon or down the road, it's inevitable.

(9,592 posts)The Polls didn't show that:
http://centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/did-bernie-sanders-cost-hillary-clinton-the-presidency/
Further, Had Bernie cost Hillary the election her numbers would have been in the gutter from the time of the convention all the way to Election day with her never being able to catch up to Trump.
That is not how things went down and coming out of the convention Hillary's numbers were at a high.
FURTHERMORE, Bernie brought a greater percentage of his voters out to vote for Clinton than Clinton did for Obama in 2008. This is a straight up fact.
ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY SUNK HILLARY: JAMES COMNEY.
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-comey-letter-probably-cost-clinton-the-election/
All the evidence bares this out. It is REVISIONIST History by Bernie haters to claim Bernie cost Hillary the election.
AGAIN BERNIE DID NOT COST HILLARY THE ELECTION!

(251 posts)Bernie is a rigid ideologue and doesn't see the damage he has done.
He created so much bitterness in his programmed followers who are indoctrinated in his rigid intolerance that they can't get away from him and look at the bigger picture of defeating a lunatic a dangerous demagogue.
Bernie doesn't consider the damage he does to the people hurt by Trump's presidency.
He and the elitists won't lose their Obamacare or get their food stamps cut, or Medicare or Medicaid cut.

(12,287 posts)I think he wants to use his waning position of power to advocate for positions he feels passionately about. The current moment is ideal for him to highlight how his ideas about M4A would blunt some of the effects of the pandemic on the American people.
At least, that's what I am going to believe until I see him do something different at the debate on Sunday.
What does bug me about his campaign is the ad he is running in heavy rotation in Georgia. It's some kind of out of context commentary from Biden about social security, Medicare, etc. I see it more suppressive of the overall vote for the general election rather than an argument for Bernie, who is bound to lose Georgia on March 24.
