Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumOne upside to Sanders staying in the race.
The closer that Biden gets to a majority and the more convincing his win, the less likely that there will be a repeat of 2016. It will serve to further unify most Democrats and left-leaners, including most Sanders supporters, behind the nominee.
I believe, as I've said since ST, that he should stay in the race until Biden has an insurmountable lead if only for that reason. It would close the door on a lot of "what ifs" and leave less room for the kind of nonsense that happened at the convention in 2016. I think there's going to be little or no tolerance for that this cycle.
Less drama, less media attention on the drama and more on the message of a unified party, and fewer distractions.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(2,042 posts)His ego driven decision to stay in ensures it. That's what he wants. If he can't have it, no one can.

(15,773 posts)I think he can stay in realistically until next Wednesday. If next Tuesday pans out as expected, with Biden crushing it, then he should drop out at that point.

(2,657 posts)If Biden crushes Bernie in places like Florida next Tuesday and Bernie still stays in, then we have to start to wonder if Bernie Sanders is delusional and/or masochistic.
I suspect that Bernie is staying in on the slim hope that at the upcoming debate he can dazzle America while Biden falls on his face. This may be the most important debate that Bernie or Biden ever have in their lifetimes--but hey, no pressure right?

(21,047 posts)I did not vote for Bernie Sanders this time around for different reasons.
I will support the Democratic nominee whoever that may be.
I will VOTE THE TICKET so to speak!
End of discussion for me at least!

(9,238 posts)long before the convention. Of course he and his campaign can argue it was all rigged and he was robbed but it wont have much impact if hes 1000 delegates behind. I guess we just have to endure the "Curse of Sanders" for a while longer.

(11,949 posts)Biden will position himself as fighting against the crazy right and crazy left. Right left of center where most Americans are. He won back blue collar whites in MI and MO who voted for Bernie then Trump last time. Thats what cost us the Midwest last time.
Bernies support will continue to crater. Florida is a closed Primary state. Bernie might not get 15%. The Bernie supporters who will not vote Democratic never were going to.

(28,833 posts)And I completely agree that the supporters who won't vote for Democrats in November likely never were going to. That's why I find all the "conciliatory" talk a little funny. I'm not sure how we're suppose to reconcile with people who push dementia conspiracy theories and trash the majority of the party. Most will vote for Biden, but some were always going to be a lost cause.

(12,474 posts)with some of them, who see a conspiracy behind every tree and this drivel he spouted today doesn't help that. They are convinced the "party establishment" (which includes me according to these young people), do not want to give up power to the young. Sorry you are idiots, end of story, I want to BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TRUMP and save the country!
