Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI wonder what Sanders supporters are going to do now.
There are lots of very serious issues in this election.
There is one that in my opinion eclipses all others.
We must get Trump and his criminal administration out of office.
If Sanders won the nomination, I would vote for him.
If any of the Democrats running won, I would vote for them.
In 2016, there were some Sanders supporters who were verbal about their reluctance to vote for Clinton and some apparently voted for third party candidates.
I just wonder where the Sanders supporters are now. Are they going to vote for Biden if he is the candidate?

(17,404 posts)Just read the bernie should stay in thread. They say we need a debate so joe can prove he isn't senile.
Bullshit. We'v had 5 friggin debates and countless town halls and interviews. Sharp as a tack.
They will never get enough. Until trump is re-elected that is.
This has to end now or they will end up helping trump to re-election.

(17,404 posts)concern troll. It is obvious he isn't suffering any incapacity.
That doesn't mean trump won't keep repeating it, but the dems should just stfu and not keep repeating it as though it's a possible thing. it isn't.
You might as well say he was born in kenya. Some people will never see reality. Stop repeating the lie.

(586 posts)I voted for Hillary then. I know how disappointing it can feel to realize you may not win this one. It can be very depressing. But extreme positions like too far left or too far right are never going to give you a winning campaign (especially not in a national campaign) because that's not where a majority of the country is.
If my earlier message sounded arrogant, I'm sorry.

(586 posts)...votes for anyone else except Biden needs to understand it's essentially a vote for Trump because it makes it a little more likely that he could get enough votes to win or that it's more likely that Putin could steal another election for him!!
It's basically a vote for democracy & the rule of law or an immoral outlaw who thinks his opinion overrules any law.
I know it's not easy to vote for the opponent of the guy you wanted but it still has to be done.

(23,012 posts)Sanders supporters will back Biden (assuming he clinches the nomination, which is what I assume) at a higher percentage rate than Clinton supporters backed Obama in 2008.
There are hundreds of millions of Americans, and it takes all types to make a country. Anyone could decide to vote for Sanders one month and flip to Napoleon the next. Before "Bernie or Busters" (Bobs) there were "Party Unity My Assers" (PUMAs) and before that we didn't have cute names for disgruntled nominally Democratic voters flipping sides - but it happens every election.
Don't lose sleep over Progressives not voting for Biden, worry about the casual voters who don't always make it to the polls when push comes to shove. Those with any degree of normal political engagement (and self described progressives usually fall into that category) will overwhelmingly vote to remove Trump from office.

(2,234 posts)like most of the ones in my social circle, they will wail and moan and disparage Hillary and blame Obama and Warren, and swear theyll never vote against the revolution. I have some seriously obsessed Bernie supporters in my group whose words and actions and insults turned me against him.
I do know several who are considering their positions thoughtfully and have said they will probably vote blue no matter who, and are not tearing down any other candidate, but most Bernie supporters I know not only drank the Koolaid in 2016, they are mainlining it to this day. I do worry about them.

(24,692 posts)Some probably found Trump to be an unknown quantity who could be all things to all people. "How bad could he be? He's an outsider who talks a good populist game. Maybe he will be OK."
No one with any sense - which excludes his 35% base, of course - views him as an unknown quantity anymore. Any liberal, progressive or moderate who votes for him (or any third party candidate) must know the consequence of what they are doing.

(1,568 posts)who take the opposite view that you're taking. I'm sure it's a mix of real people, opposition trolls & bots, and just run of the mill trolls stirring the pot, and I am sure their numbers are much smaller than the more rational bernie supporters like yourself. But they are really loud and they have a way of making themselves seem like a major force that is going to continue to work against Biden getting elected. As a Bernie supporter, do you have tactics you use when come across people like that? I'm trying to figure out if it's best to ignore them, or if it's still a good idea to attempt civil discussion with them despite the fact many who fall into that category tend to not like constructive debate in the same way someone as yourself might. And yeah, I also get equally frustrated with the smaller in number "never bernie" types.

(6,797 posts)I voted for Bernie in the primary in 2016. I still like a lot of his ideas but I didn't think he could beat Trump because of the socialist issue. True or not republicans would be spewing bullshit about communism and socialism being the same thing. Also this election he has gotten so for lack of a better word, hateful. He and his staffers are sounding more like Trump, blame somebody else for whatever happens.

(2,259 posts)I'm a Berner. I want him to win. He may not. Job #1 is to get Dump out of office. The end.
At this point, virtually everyone I know supports Bernie. All but one of those has a clue and is going to vote for WHOEVER is the nominee. We all totally get it that it is silly to quibble about the good candidate vs. the tolerable one when not voting for the tolerable means we may not have a republic to vote in any more, should the wannabe dictator be re-elected.
The last holdout I am talking about is in her 80s and is hoping that if not Bernie, there will be a revolution. Fat chance. I guess it's nice to be in your 80s, expecting a new dictatorship won't affect you much the rest of your life, and hoping things get so bad (preferably after you're gone) that U.S. citizens will start the next revolutionary war.
Get it?

(2,259 posts)Neither Bernie nor Biden is anywhere close to having this locked up.
Apparently you are not satisfied by your comrades who do not agree that Joe is the best candidate saying we will support him unconditionally should he get the nom. No, you want us to walk away now, in a race that is still viable, and give over our allegiance immediately. That is how Trump functions. Do not expect it from us. We are patriots with a slightly different vision than yours. Millennials and younger are with Bernie, not Joe. They are the future of the party, where Joes strongest supporters are elderly.
Dont spit in the faces of your allies. We dont have to be in lock step. Or is the problem that you hate all things Bernie and just cant accept good will when you see it?
