Related: About this forumThis Bernie Supporter Demands All Sanders/Biden Supporters Be Nice To Others PERIOD
As a Bernie Supporter I know many of you are angry at lots of stuff my friends. I too am tired of being robbed blind by the 1% while they literally steal from my family in plain sight. It is tough watching the people who are not willing to stand up to the power of MONEY getting in our way as we try to create a more fair, and just country. Going against 50 Trillion In Wealth will never be easy. Not for us, and not for Bernie, or Elizabeth, Joe or anyone else.
The 1% own the Republicans, and their money has a huge influence on GOOD DEMOCRATS. Whether they are "the establishment" or not it doesn't really matter. You need 50 million dollars to run for the Senate and where do you get it? From the wealthy in wine caves. It isn't right, but it is the current system. No one can do anything good unless they get elected, and they can't get elected without money regardless how noble their goals are. It truly sucks.
Money / Establishment is complicated. My advice to all is get Democrats elected, and work tirelessly to get the influence of money out of our politics, and restore DEMOCRACY where the power is with the people not just the 1% or the wealthy.
Now go forth and be nice. Not all rude people are Bernie Supporters, and this message is to all. This primary will be a good fight. We can all be nice, stand up for our candidates, and our principles, and our ideals. If we are not nice it makes the work of others meaningless.
We can't take back the Senate or the White House if we are acting like idiots.
From this point forward I will consider all rude people Russian Agents....
Now please don't suspend my account for telling the truth. Democrats are better people. Period. I count Bernie as a real Democrat. A different kind of Democrat. A Roosevelt Democrat. Remember him? Social Security. Unemployment. New Deal. You get it right.

(154,120 posts)Normally going to a national convention is a once in a life time experience. I have worked really hard inside the party on campaigns and voter protection issues for a very long time to earn this trip. Too bad that sanders and his vetted delegates ruined that experience and did their best to help trump. A candidate has absolute approval rights over their pledged delegates because these delegates can change their votes and these delegates represent the candidate and campaign. I helped vet Clinton delegates and I know that I was vetted. The Clinton campaign told us that we represent her and that our actions would reflect on her and her campaign.
In contrast, sanders sent one very weak text the Sunday night before the convention and then did little or nothing to control his delegates. It was nasty I was there when the sanders delegates booed Congressman John Lewis. I was warned about this stunt 30 minutes before it happened by the Clinton campaign whip. According to my whip, sanders was asked to stop this event and declined. That incident will be used against sanders by Russia to suppress the African American vote just as was done in 2016
Link to tweet
Russia will just run material showing sanders delegates booing John Lewis, Elijah Cummings and others to suppress the vote of African American voters and I feel that this tactic would be very effective
I was at the Texas delegation breakfast when a group of sanders delegates marched in and demanded that we condemn Clinton and change our votes to sanders.
sanders spoke to the Texas delegation the next morning and his speech was again solely about himself. There was a mini-riot due to his delegates the prior morning and the only thing that sanders talked about was himself. sanders did nothing to deal with the fact that his delegates were out of control and did nothing to try to help Hillary Clinton win the general election.
Finally a group of sanders delegates yelled at my daughter and called her the c-Word because she would not try to get me to change my vote. Again sanders was asked to tell his delegates to behave during the convention and sanders refused.
The conduct that I experience mirrors the conduct that Senator Warren experienced.
Link to tweet
The concept that it is okay for sanders and his supporters to engaged in this conduct but it is not okay to talk about this conduct does not work

(34,547 posts)It should be handled. Bad behavior is bad behavior and theres no excuse for it. Sanders and his supporters should be called out until those that have behaved so badly are literally driven away from the table.
In the long run, this bad behavior seriously backfired on sanders and drove voters away. Hopefully this will become discussion in the future of how not to run a campaign

(10,804 posts)all Democrats hold dear with trash talk from him. I have a tough time with Sanders telling me I voted for HRC merely because she is a woman. Nah, I want him to lose and lose big. i am not feeling cooperative with Sanders. He has once again done damage to Democrats, our party and has made our primary not fun and affected it in a manner that we are down to two because we all have to support one, and not let the natural process happen with our Democrats that we would be happy with any one of them. But no, we had to stop our primary and all get behind Biden, to stop Sanders who had little to no opposition because he was not splitting votes by five.

(20,649 posts)say to them. They either want to vote against Donald Trump's Democratic opponent, or they don't. Considering the amount of Sanders supporters who voted for Trump in 2016, and how few young Sanders supporters actually voted for him in 2020, I personally think a better strategy to nominate a moderate, normal candidate who doesn't frighten all those suburban moms and independents. Those people vote, and those people voted in the 2018 midterms.

(17 posts)Actually no my children aren't the ones who are doing it. Quite frankly they don't have the time to get online and argue. They have to much they do in real life. You know jobs, wives, kids. Chores, etc.
However they do watch the news and all they hear is how bernie bros this and bernie bros that. I am an independent have been my whole life. I took my children to caucus in iowa for obama. In Des Moines. They all loved it (honestly the little ones loved the food) but it was something that got them excited.
I had to move back to denver to take care of my parents after an accident, so I couldnt get them involved further with the process. (You know life).
However as adults their politics is definitely left. Of course they all approved of Obama. Not one voted for Hillary, some weren't old enough to vote, one wrote in Sanders and the rest voted Jill. What I an saying is attacking these voters on the news. Young people who aren't involved in these things, but you through them all into the same pot. Will lose you votes, not just now but for the next 50 years as well. Is that smart?
Wouldn't a better way is to say, some supporters may go a little to far on occasion. However we understand and still want you on our team. And before you say anything I have had Biden supporters attack me saying that i was a lazy "boy" who needed to get off my ass and get a job. No apology when this semi retired grandma posted a picture of me and my grandbaby.
I have warren and especially Clinton supports accuse me of some very vile things simply because I would not vote for her. Every candidate has supporters that may be too passionate. To lump them all in one category and scold them is not doing the party any good. Maybe the party should listen to them.
Sorry, this may have rambled, I just woke up and need to go make my coffee.

(17 posts)They feel insulted and attacked. they listen to the news. They listened to Warren last night and felt that she was saying all bernie supporters are included.
You can dislike all the people who are doing the attacking in all camps, however you have to do it in a way that doesn't alienate bernie supporters who just hope for a better future for thier
children.
They all feel bernie is that person. They want to vote for something, not against someone.
If biden is the person you want, then stop with the attacks on bernie and start listening to why the youth want him.
Why I want bernie. Try to bring them into the tent, not yell at them and tell them to move on. Warren could have said that I understand why they are passionate and here is why we want that passion, and show by example of how to include them. Not whine because she got snake emojis. yes call out all the people who are really insulting in all camps. But throwing all in one big bag and saying, shut up is not how to do it.
Talk about how you understand why they like the policies they like. Listen to them. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

(32,640 posts)After 14 states held primary contests on Super Tuesday, Sanders acknowledged to reporters that he'd been "disappointed" with the results.
"Have we been as successful as I would hope in bringing young people in? The answer is no," Sanders told reporters at a news conference at his Burlington, Vt., headquarters. Sanders went on to acknowledge the undeniable challenge that any candidate banking on the support of younger voters faces: They do not vote in high numbers, compared with other groups.
"I think that will change in the general election, but I will be honest with you, we have not done as well with bringing young people into the process," Sanders said. "It is not easy."

(12,008 posts)And often assume that anyone who does something obnoxious is a Bernie supporter even when it's not true (such as the dairy protesters who interrupted Biden's speech the other night).
At least Bush, for all his faults, made a point of saying after 9/11 that the attacks were not a reflection on the vast majority of law-abiding patriotic Muslims in this country. Many of the people on here who trash "Bernie supporters" lack the courtesy to do the same. I left this forum for a while after 2016 because I felt like I was being blamed for Hillary's loss because I supported Bernie in the primaries, even though I voted and campaigned for Hillary in the general.

(12,008 posts)I also didn't like how long he took to endorse Hillary in 2016. I felt that she deserved better after she was such a class act after conceding in 2008.
I'm glad he ran in 2016 and I am proud to have been a part of it. I think he changed the party for the better by showing that a candidate who relied entirely on small donations and was unabashedly progressive could mount a serious challenge, and not just a fringe annoyance a la Kucinich or Ralph Nader. He also pushed for reforms to the nominating process that I agree with, like no superdelegates on the first ballot. But I wish he had passed the torch to Warren this time instead of running again and dividing the progressive vote. That's what he wanted initially in 2016 - he wanted her to run instead of running himself. But sadly, I think the crowds and the attention and the power he gained went to his head, which is understandable after being on the sidelines for so long but also selfish.
But my post wasn't even about Bernie himself. It was about the way all Bernie supporters are lumped together by his critics, and were all collectively blamed for Hillary's loss in 2016. It makes people like me feel alienated from the party even though I don't even support him this year (although I may end up voting for him now that we are down to 2 choices and he's unlikely to win).
