Guam announces plans for free college

The governor's office announced plans yesterday to provide a tuition-free college education, although no specifics were provided on how the idea would be funded.

In announcing the plan, the governor's office released a photo of Gov. Eddie Calvo, Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio and a potential running mate to Tenorio, former Sen. Tony Ada, outside the Guam Congress building yesterday.

"Ray Tenorio was personally aware of the struggles that graduating high school seniors encounter in seeking higher education," according to a press release from the governor's office. "His family did not have much money and could not pay for college,"

The press release went on to state that his circumstances motivated Tenorio to earn his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Guam.
