Trouble down under

Promedical, the company supposedly contacted by Apex General Contractors LLC to supply the one million COVID-19 tests for the now-cancelled $38 million contract with the Puerto Rico Health Department is being investigated by Australian authorities, according to a story published Monday in The Guardian Australia.

According to report, Promedical Equipment Pty is headed by Neran De Silva, a politically connected businessman who was convicted of raping a dancer in a mutual friend’s home in May 2016.

The investigation into Promedical is being directed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, an Australian government investigatory board.

De Silva had claimed on Australian television that Promedical was able to produce the COVID-10 rapid test kits, but it was recently disowned by the Chinese company that originally made the agreement to collaborate with Promedical.

Prior to entering the COVID-19 test kit market, Promedical promoted do-it-yourself, at home cryogenic devices and a machine they claimed treated erectile dysfunction.
