Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services officials have confirmed six additional dengue fever patients, increasing the island's total this year to 10.
Earlier this month, two locally transmitted dengue cases were confirmed. The first two dengue cases on Guam this year were acquired overseas. One patient traveled from Yap and the other came from Palau.
DPHSS on Friday found six additional suspected cases. After tests and interviews with the individuals, Public Health confirmed five of the six new cases are locally acquired which means these individuals had no recent travel history. The sixth person had recently traveled, which means his or her virus was probably acquired while traveling, according to the Joint Information Center press release.
To date, there are now seven confirmed cases of locally acquired dengue infection and three confirmed cases of imported dengue infection, the press release stated.
