Guam DOE continues to make progress towards removing high risk status
Guam Department of Education (GDOE) Superintendent Jon Fernandez has received a letter from U.S. Department of Education (USEd) Deputy Assistant Secretary for Grants Administration Jim Stader confirming that GDOE has fulfilled a fourth key special condition imposed as part of the departments federal high-risk status designation.
According to GDOE public information officer Isa Baza, the federal government has already removed three of the seven special conditions that had been imposed on the department since the early 2000s.
In July, Fernandez submitted a request to remove a fourth special condition requiring that GDOE submit timely annual single audits.
Basa said in a news release that GDOE has met this condition for the past 15 years, receiving its 6th consecutive clean audit for both financial statements and federal grant compliance in May 2019. The letter from Deputy Assistant Secretary Stader confirms that GDOE has met this fourth special condition.
