Federal government approves Guam's disaster declaration for Typhoon Wutip
Guam –The federal government has approved a request for assistance submitted by the Government of Guam after Typhoon Wutip struck the Marianas on Feb. 23, 2019.
President Donald J. Trump approved the disaster declaration and ordered federal assistance to supplement territory and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the typhoon.
According to a release from the Whitehouse, federal funding is available to the territory and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by Typhoon Wutip.
The request for public assistance and the hazard mitigation grant program covers several categories:
i. Category A: Debris removal
ii. Category B: Emergency protective measures
iii. Category C: Road systems and bridges
iv. Category D: Water control facilities
v. Category E: Public buildings and contents
vi. Category F: Public utilities
vii. Category G: Parks and other recreational facilities
