GovGuam health insurance uncertain

Health insurance coverage for government of Guam employees and retirees is uncertain when the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1 because the procurement for the contract has been stalled due to a protest.

GovGuam currently has insurance contracts with three companies -Calvo's SelectCare, TakeCare and NetCare - but the contracts expire Sept. 30.

The current contract has an option three-month extension, but NetCare has said it won't be extending because of a lack of payment from GovGuam.

Department of Administration Director Edward Birn sent a letter to the three insurance companies covering GovGuam to ask them to extend coverage for another year because of the ongoing procurement protest.
