CNMI works to attract Japan flights

Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Gov. Ralph Torres said his government is working to bring direct flights from Japan to Saipan after recently announced service cuts.

Delta Air Lines, which pulled out of Guam after more than 30 years, announced it would stop service from Japan to Saipan on May 6.

"I want to reiterate and reaffirm our commitment to the Japan market. The CNMI tourism industry was built by Japanese investment beginning over 40 years ago," Torres said.

Torres said he would be calling an emergency meeting with the Marianas Visitors Authority and the Commonwealth Ports Authority next week to discuss ways to ensure flights from Japan continue in the wake of Delta's decision to suspend flights to the CNMI.
