Pastafarians
Related: About this forumIs this religion a renewal of an older one?
As far as I can see there are two types of followers of the FSM.
Those who think this is a new religion and have accepted the noddleness of it all.
And those who know what they are really worshiping. It is apparent to all who can see that the FSM is in actuality the Elder god Cthulhu.
The facade is obvious to see through.

Now the Elder Gods are as reasonable to believe in as any of the others.
But at least the Pastafarians should own up to the true nature of their deity.
But keep the recipes.

(17,505 posts).... changed everything from the Old Cthulhu Recipe Book with His message of forgiveness and sauce from a jar!
so it is the Elder God, but with a new covenant?
And a tastier menu.

May pasta be with you so that you may know the light and the way.

Yee of little faith.
I like the newer, mellower Cthuhlu interpretation. Aged like fine Parmigiano Regiano.

(2,884 posts)Edhopper is to Pastafarianism what satanists are to Christians.
He wants to smear our pastafarian religion which is one of pure pasta goodness,
and paint it with the same devilish brush Cthulhutists worship.
Vade retro, Edhopper, by the noodly powers which have been vested in me
(I usually conclude I have these theological powers after having drunk a bottle of pirate rum)

(34,813 posts)true progressive pastafarians understand that they shouldn't take the FSM literally and that there are ways to interpret it through the context of history and culture.
The FSM did not just appear a few years ago, he has been here since before the dawn of time. Less modern people saw him as Cthulhu. Today we see him through a semolina lens.

(2,884 posts)1- Theological: based on my selective reading of the passages I like in the Pastafarian Gospel (and skipping/omitting the passages which do not support my opinion), I concluded that Pastafarians cannot condone Cthulhuism, even as a syncretic sub-religion. So, arrh!
2- Ecclesiastical: as other religions excommunicate or ban form interfaith groups, I feel our Holy Church of the Sacred Flying Spaghetti Monster would gain in stature if it prove that it can too be intolerant of dissent and able to squash any belief not condoned by its priesthood (the forum hosts being the closest to a clergy that Pastafarianism will ever get). In this framework of reference, you, Edhopper, would become the first sacrificial lamb on the altar of the respectability of the Holy Church of the Sacred Flying Spaghetti Monster. So, double arrh!
3- Social: if I, in everyday life, can drop casually in conversations (like between one trillion and one zillion times per day) that I mercilessly wielded the ban hammer at a well known website, my social prestige would shoot up through the roof and even the postman might ask me for my autograph. I like that reason #3.
Having thus decided, I will uncork a bottle of my best aged pirate rum and start swilling a bit of it to celebrate my decision. Then drink some more while looking for the ban button. Then finish the bottle while considering what an awesome decision I took. Then I'll sleep and will have forgotten all by tomorrow.
If you're not banned by tomorrow, consider it a temporary rum-fueled respite from my just wrath.
RAmen.

(34,813 posts)I am merely bringing in a more global view.
Surely you want to allow theological discussions. You say the FSM is a new God. I say he is a mellower, more tasty incarnation of an Elder one.
Besides, we can come together in the glory of pasta, and isn't that the most important thing.
In the spirit of healing, I will retitled this thread to something less confrontation.
