I hope very much to vote for him in a future election.

Thanks to elleng for her fierce advocacy. i learned quite a bit reading O'Malleys policy positions.

I had pretty much written it all down to, 'There was something special we weren't seeing just yet.'
Last fall it seemed like he was finally catching on
He seemed to be everywhere at once
I thought in December he was going to reach at least 15% in Iowa
I had hoped for a strong 3rd place finish (even dared hope for a weak 2nd)
I was shocked when he announced he was suspending his campaign
Then I saw the numbers.

I'm confused at what happened

7. About the numbers

I assume that the reported numbers reflect the totals AFTER the viability weeding-out. If anyone tabulated the expressed initial preferences, I think O'Malley would have done much better. What kneecapped his showing was that, in many precincts, he failed to reach 15% and so was recorded at zero for that precinct. His actual supporters just went home or were counted as supporting their second choice.

He would certainly have done much better in New Hampshire, a straightforward primary without these arcane caucus complications. For that reason, I too was surprised that he suspended. I thought he would at least hang on for eight days to see how New Hampshire went.

If Bernie wasn't in the race, who knows how well he might have done? I hope there will be a place for him in the cabinet of whichever cabinet wins, if he wants one.

We better not have seen the last of him! We need him, and a few more just like him.
