Draft Biden South Carolina state director Isaiah Nelson has officially joined the Martin O'Malley campaign as a senior adviser in the Palmetto State.
"In light of Vice President Biden's decision not to run, it is clear that there is only one candidate in this race who has delivered results from raising the minimum wage, signing marriage equality into law, abolishing the death penalty, investing in education, and passing some of the strictest gun control laws in the country," Nelson said in a statement Thursday morning.
He added, "I encourage others to join me in supporting Gov. O'Malley because we need someone who doesn't just hold progressive principles, but has proven he can deliver on them."
Nelson helped organize grassroots efforts in South Carolina so that if Joe Biden were to announce he'd have a solid infrastructure in the early primary state. Now that Biden has decided not to enter the 2016 Democratic primary, Nelson will play a similar role in O'Malley's campaign. No other major Draft Biden staffers have publicly committed to campaigns since Biden's decision two weeks ago.
Prior to working for O'Malley and Biden, Nelson was part of Obama for America in 2012 and ran the 2014 South Carolina coordinated campaign for the state's federal and statewide Democratic candidates. Most recently, he served as campaign manager for Mayor Alvin Brown in Jacksonville, Fla.
