O'Malley crashes GOP debate.
Wednesday night may be the Republicans' moment in the spotlight, but Martin O'Malley wanted some time to be heard.
The former Maryland governor called a press conference at University of Colorado at Boulder just hours before the Republicans took to the stage. He spoke with multiple family members of gun violence victims to call for stricter gun-control measures, an issue both O'Malley and his fellow Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have been eager to use against Bernie Sanders, whose votes in the Senate have shaded toward the pro-gun position on occassion.
Our country works best when the Democratic and Republican parties are actually working and what we are seeing in the Democratic Party is a growing consensus around gun safety legislation but its hardly even come up as an issue yet in any debate that the Republicans have had, OMalley told POLITICO as he walked to a gun safety rally. So maybe tonight it will come up. Im in search of that elusive creature in the Republican Party called a presidential candidate with a backbone to take on the NRA.
POLITICO asked him what the chances were that he would find one.
I dont know. Keep hope alive, OMalley responded.
