O'Malley Supporters Launch Super PAC - Generation Forward

Money raised by Generation Forward will be used to run an independent campaign on O’Malley’s behalf in early nominating states, its founders said. The political action committee’s name is aimed at sending a specific message: that 52-year-old O’Malley is better suited to represent younger generations than 67-year-old Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Democratic front-runner.

“This is not your grandmother’s super PAC,” Damian O’Doherty, the group’s chief executive, said in an interview Wednesday. He described plans for outreach on the ground and via digital media, as well as collaboration with other like-minded groups — a departure, he said, from the traditional super PAC model of simply raising money to air TV ads.

They have to be really careful on the age argument. It could come back to bite them in the ass if Hillary and Bernie go after him on it.

1. I suspect they won't 'go after him' on it.

This will be primarily a substantive campaign. (Some of Hillary's sycophant's, on the other hand, might try to gain themselves some points.)

2. O'Malley's Youth and Executive Experience

O'Malley's youth and executive experience are assets and can be stressed without negative campaigning against his opponents. Bringing up his opponents' age would be as pointless as their criticizing his never having been a US senator or a secretary of state. But there is nothing wrong with emphasizing a candidate's strengths.

3. And republicans will soon be launching their "Generation Backward" Super PAC

They will tell us that billionaire "robber barons" are our friends.

It is good to see that some of O'Malley's wealthy friends are eager to support his campaign for the people, rather than for the billionaire class.

4. Oh the media is going to have a field day with this. From CBS news:

The title in particular. Like no politician EVER challenged another politician. Mentioning O'Malley's youthfulness should not (at least my my reality) be construed as ageist.

So, having said that — I personally do not have a problem with people going after the younger vote.

"We don't necessarily think Hillary Clinton will have trouble appealing to younger voters, but we do think that Martin O'Malley appeals best to younger voters," Generation Forward communications director Ron Boehmer told CBS News. He cited O'Malley's "policies, his record in Maryland - everything from supporting same sex marriage early on to holding down the cost of college tuition."

"Millenials today are looking for new leadership and new opportunities to grow," Boehmer added. "They're one of the largest voting blocs in this country, and they're very underrepresented. We believe that a new type of leadership is needed to speak to millennials and act on their behalf."

As much as I hate it, we live in a post Citizens Untied world. PAC's happen and until we can elect a majority again, they will continue to happen.
