Martin O'Malley

The politically fueled Iowa State Fair just wrapped up Sunday, but theres no time for presidential candidates to rest. Some are already returning to Iowa and realize the state is a major stop on the road to The White House.
Democrat and former Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley was in Iowa Sunday. He started his day in Muscatine and ended it in Davenport. Over the last few months OMalley said hes slowly gained support, going from one percent in the polls a few months ago, to seven percent now. So far hes been to 30 of the 99 counties in Iowa, and he said by making Iowa the focus of his campaign, his support will only grow.
Sunday in Davenport, OMalley spoke about his plans for America. He said as far as education goes, people need to learn to earn. If elected president, he said he will make college more affordable. He also mentioned his plans to expand social security instead of cutting it. OMalley is in favor of raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Our economy works when workers earn more money, you cant have a consumer driven economy where were all making the same or less than we were ten or twelve years ago and expect to have economic growth, so we need to get wages going up, OMalley said.
Last weekend in Scott County, Democrat Bernie Sanders said he supports the same hike, but OMalley supporter, Matt Wissing from Davenport said thats not enough to win his vote.
I heard Bernie Sanders over at St. Ambrose a couple of months ago, and I like a lot of things he has to say, but the thing I like about Gov. OMalley best, hes proven himself, hes been a mayor, hes been a governor, he accomplish things, he just doesnt talk about them, hes accomplished a lot of things, Wissing said.
OMalley said, unlike other candidates, Iowa is the focus of his campaign and he believes this will work to his advantage.
The people of Iowa make the first decision, and theres always an inevitable front runner right up until the people of Iowa have their voices heard, OMalley said. Usually in Iowa a new leader emerges, who the people of Iowa put forward to the country to consider, that the rest of the country perhaps have never heard of before, I believe thats going to happen this time as well.
Wissing agrees with OMalley.
I havent made an exact commitment, but Im looking over everybody, but Im leaning towards Gov. OMalley, Wissing said.

(24,572 posts)They like what Sanders says, but they think O' Malley would be better at implementing the programs
That, I still think, is what will move the arrow toward O' Malley by year's end and make it a 3 person race -- Executive experience
