Presidential candidate O'Malley to visit Nashville.

Amidst Republican presidential contenders flooding in to Middle Tennessee, a Democrat vying for his party's presidential nomination is planning his own visit to Nashville.

Former Maryland governor Martin O'Malley is set to attend a fundraiser Aug. 27 at the Nashville home of John and Natasha Deane. John Deane is president of consulting and management for The Advisory Board Company, a health care research and consulting firm. He's also serving as O'Malley's finance chairman in Tennessee.

"Members of my family and I have known Martin O'Malley a long time and have witnessed the great work he performed as both a two-term mayor of Baltimore and a two-term governor of Maryland," Deane said in an email to The Tennessean.

"He is a strong progressive executive with a track record for getting things done. He will be a great president and we are proud to introduce him to our friends and colleagues in Nashville."

Bill Mason — who worked as an aide to former Vice President Al Gore, former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen and other Democrats in the state — and his wife Cynthia are also helping Deane organize the event.
