I'm guessing that O'Malley's invitation to keynote this conference was due to his use of GIS in the Maryland StateStat system.
I give O'Malley a huge plus over the other candidates for his apparent grasp of technology and vision towards its effective use in good governance.

Would you mind x-posting it in Video+ and somewhere in Science???
PS, NOTE all, MO'M 'just' had surgery on his shoulder, according to the video.

(18,158 posts)I actually posted this before watching it ... just finished and I'm really impressed.
But alas morning comes early for me so I have to shut down.
Feel free to share around, or I will try to do it tomorrow. (I just hate to put it out in the wild and not stick around to answer, er, questions.)

A Little Weird
(1,754 posts)I work in GIS. I think this was at the Federal Gov't GIS conference earlier this year not the main GIS conference (which is going on this week I think). That would have been a huge audience! I'm not sure how big the Federal conference is but I'm sure it's pretty big too.
It's always good to see a high level politician who understands the importance of GIS technology to so many areas. So many of them just see the expense and want to cut it to the bone for everything except maybe law enforcement.
Good on O'Malley!

(18,158 posts)I was confused because the date on the video is February. But I had got the article off Google News and it was dated yesterday. And everything else I could find on "ESRI 2015" had the conference happening this week.
Either way I'm really glad I found it. I am in IT for a commercial company, but very interested in public sector IT and especially GIS and business intelligence. So I was pretty much salivating over this when I found it. (I'm such a geek. LOL.)
