Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of cannabis allergy?

I have a medical marijuana card here in Oklahoma and I'm fully in favor of legalization, but I suspect that I have become allergic to it. I have been having serious reactions such as my jaw and neck becoming stiff and finding it difficult to swallow. One night I even went to the ER. I'm taking prednisone and hydroxyizine which help. I'm in the process of changing doctors and can't get an appointment until 4/30/21. I would appreciate hearing if anyone has experienced anything like this or knows anyone who has. I hope it isn't the pot, but I think it might be. I haven't used it in a month but I live with my brother who is still vaping in his room with the door closed and a widow open. I'm wondering if that could be enough to trigger it.

2. Might not be the pot, but the vape...

There are a lot of particles in vape smoke that could be triggering a reaction.

It's a plant, so if you've ever had any grass/weed (haha) allergies, that could be it. But I'd get tested before giving it up for good because it could just be the vape. Even if it's an allergy, you might also still be able to do edibles but not smoke. Definitely talk to your doctor! I'd be concerned about the constricted arteries triggering a heart attack -- especially with your jaw and neck symptoms.

Thank you very much for your reply. Using edibles might be a solution. I was using them along with vaping. It might not even be the pot since I haven't used it in a month. I had an attack this morning. I'm 77 and have heart issues already although my cardiologist recently said my heart is getting stronger. The reason I suspect the pot is that for several months I had reactions only when I had vaped pot. It has only been recently that I've had reactions without having vaped pot.

Just being around people smoking. If you have a grass allergy you can have a pot allergy. She tried a tiny bite of a pot cookie - still had a reaction.

9. I have had the same experience.

I thought my throat was swelling up. I couldn't swallow and just concentrated on breathing. About five years later i tried half of the lowest dose of an eatable. The reaction started out the same so I took a antihistamine, started up my portable oxygen (COPD) and held my cell phone to call 911.
It all passed but it took longer. Never again will I try it.

used to grow the pot? hard to say. maybe there are allergy tests available — a quick search dhows there are skin tests.

13. After a lifetime of smoking

with no negative reactions, I took a hit one night and my heart started racing. When it didn’t stop after 60-90 minutes I went to the ER.

It took all night to bring it down. I have never smoked since.

I have no doubt the weed was the cause.

16. Yes. 1978. Wife nearly bought the farm.

With two friends we drove up into the hills from Gold Beach for a costumed Halloween party. We had made some cookies from the pollen of our male plant and ate those before leaving and on the way to the party. Wife went as a bong. I went as a Thai stick (wrapped in branches of flowering cannabis). Ten or fifteen miles east from Hwy 101, still a half-hour from the party, her throat began to swell and she started having trouble breathing. We turned around at once and headed down the mountain to the little hospital in Gold Beach which got her the medical attention needed. I can still remember the doctor asking us if there was anyone who hadn't eaten any cookies. Only one could answer in the affirmative. Interestingly, the doctor had a large metal belt buckle with a marijuana leaf in bas-relief.

Probably because I had a strong antihistamine to take called hydroxyzine. When I went to the ER I had taken three of those and was still reacting. It used to be used as a pre-op sedative. Thanks for your reply.
