Catherine Hiller, 68, is a stoner. Shes a mother of three boys, author of six books, and has been lighting up for nearly half a century. Shes never hidden her habitexcept from her kids when they were younger, and maybe some neighbors. And in her new memoir, Just Say Yes, shes coming out to the entire world about her her years of high adventures.A lot of readers have contacted me and told me how grateful they are that Ive come out, she says. Some of these people are younger than I am and may have jobs or political ambitions so they cant come out. Theyre really grateful for someone who can. They tell me Im their hero.
We can debate legalization and the scientific effects of marijuana on the human body, but we wont. This is Hillers story she has a lot of things to say. And no, she was not high during this interview.

(36,333 posts)...but none during the last 20+ years except when traveling somewhere it's not safe to carry. Started at 15, and today is my 60th birthday. Along the way I've had successful careers, earned advanced degrees, and generally had a good ride. Light up, sparky!

There are too many people who still believe that "Reefer Madness" was a documentary.

(1,662 posts)Safety and health issues is a liar.
If we were worried about the safety amd health of the cannabis user we wouldnt lock them up in the most dangerous and unhealthy places in the county called prison.
It is time for the users of this plant to stop being silent and stop being exploited and abused by law enforcement!
Thank you Ms Hiller we need more people like you!

(991 posts)The shame and stigma associated with such a peaceful, healthy pursuit has definitely left it's psychic toll.

(23,867 posts)Taking The High Road. It was brilliant, and I don't have the time to give it justice here. The woman who owns my local dispensary was raided, and everyone was charged with something, and paid a huge bail. She did impersonations, and shared personal stories. It was both sad and comforting, and optimistic.
All of us, hiding to some degree or another. I've had cops show up for some unrelated issue, or even a mistake, and not known that I had a grow room just feet from them, all the while having a god damned heart attack.
Maybe a thread on sharing our nightmare stories is in order, even if a bit morbid and tragic.

(60,011 posts)Not a bad role model.
As much as I love living where I do, the pot laws are too draconian for me to risk it.
But if it were legal.....oh yeah.
Smoking was pretty casually open when I went to U of W in Seattle, back in the fun days of the 70's.

(51,076 posts)mind you in the '70 pot was hard to find around here for about 6 months out of the year, until I started doing my own gardening that is.
Pretty much most of what I know today I learned while I was high on pot. There ain't much I can't do either.

(51,907 posts)Just on an occasional basis, though. Since WA legalization, I vape a good Indica every night when I have to get up before noon the newxt day. I enjoy an occasional daytime Sativa high, but I'm very busy and find it distracting.
