Kansas medical marijuana activist loses custody of son

"At this time, no charges have been filed against Shona Banda. Nonetheless, her son has been taken from her house. Garden City Police Captain Randy Ralston defended police actions:
“The most important thing here is the child’s well-being,” Ralston said. “That is why it is a priority for us, just because of the danger to the child.”
The Department of Child and Family Services also made a brief statement:
The Kansas Department of Children and Families also declined to talk about the case, citing confidentiality reasons. But its spokeswoman, Theresa Freed, said that generally the agency’s goal ultimately is to “keep families together when it is safe to do so.”

...and better off with bureaucrats and strangers...NOT.

On the other hand, if this woman was an alcohol drinker - which I don't know if she is or isn't - the boy would likely still be with his mother.

Kansas is run by assholes.

assholes that are destroying their state. Every story you read about Kansas is just showcasing it more and more as a total disaster. This case is just one illustration of that.
Maybe next election they can rid themselves of Brownback and people of his ilk but somehow I doubt it. Too much fundamentalist religion and not enough common sense for that.

...of Kansas the benefit of the doubt.

Some surely are good people with, unfortunately, stupid neighbors who vote for the assholes and religious freaks who run the State.

Hopefully, someday, the tide will turn.

...in Kansas right now to tip the balance.

I don't want to broad brush the whole state as being populated by bad people, because I doubt that is the case.

I'm in California, which is a solidly "blue" state, but there are plenty of douchebags in government here, nonetheless.

The official ideology of Kansas is more important than the suspected ideology of the Parent.

Cannabis does not make you a danger to kids. Foster care can be a dangerous place for kids.
