Tip your budtender?

I went to a dispensary today to get something for sleep. This isn't something I've done often, so I'm not sure of the etiquette. Should I have tipped? I knew exactly what I wanted, but he did advise me of what to try next.

1. There's typically a tip jar on the counter.

but tips are totally optional. I usually tip a couple of bucks.

2. Recreationally speaking?

Yes. Like your bartender.

Medicinally? - no
Would be like tipping your pharmacist.

since they are really helpful, knowledgeable and experienced.

4. High price, fancy dispensary, no.

Ones with reasonable prices, I will. I've notice the fancy ones can charge double for the same meds. I also return to those "working class" stores that are more competitive.

5. For me it depends. There are two kinds of co-ops around here...

the first has budtenders and one greets me, personally weighs and packages my selection right in front of me then takes my payment too. I always tip these folks, the amount depends on the size of my purchase and how much time I take up. Sometimes Im there for 5-10 minutes. I feel like these are very personal transaction like at a bar where a fancy drink is made for me.

The second type has everything prepacked by the co-op or the companies whose strains they carry
I give my order to one person, pay another person at another station or window, then I get my prepacked goods from the pay window or I go back to original counter person and leave.
I'm usually in and out in 1-2 minutes or so. maybe less.
I tend to not tip at these places.
I feel like I'm running in the liquor store and buying a six pack or bottle of booze. It's just a retail transaction.

But in either case after I leave I still marvel at the wonder of how easy it is now, compared to when I was younger before the modern era of legalization.
