(THE CONVERSATION) Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently clarified how the Trump administration intends to treat states that have legalized pot, which remains illegal on the federal level.
The Obama administration eventually took a relatively hands-off approach to this enforcement conundrum. But Sessions instructed all United States attorneys to treat cannabis-related activities like any suspected crime, instead of making them a low priority if they comply with state laws.
This bureaucratic salvo is stirring fears that the Trump administration could be on the verge of a crackdown that could potentially jeopardize the nations growing number of legally operating pot businesses. However, based on my research and what Ive learned while teaching the first U.S. college course on the marijuana business at the University of Denver, I see no reason for supporters of legalization to panic.
In fact, I believe that Sessions may have actually accelerated the process toward federal marijuana legalization.

I thought he should go over to Urban Leaf (the dispensary that was a spot for a local Girl Scout to sell a lot of cookies this past week). He could get money for his campaign and maybe a few votes too.

(2,678 posts)If theres to be cannabis reform itll definitely have to wait until the next Congress. Its certainly not going to be this one. After all that is done it would have to survive Trump, who will definitely veto said bill. Trump is, big surprise, when it comes to cannabis, a typical, run of the mill, anti cannabis Thuglican. His early talk of legalize all drugs was just that; talk. I dont think he was ever, truly, liberal. I think he was evil then as he is evil now.

I am fortunate to live in a state with sane laws. Legal rec is fantastic. But I want everyone to have the same rights and opportunities.

Just another way the government has been killing minority populations since we mass slaughtered the natives...
ugh...
i wish this grafting thing would end
it starts with forcing people to kill over drugs and alcohol
and then jailing them
it's suppression of minorities
it's systematic and needs to end
thank god we're fighting back
