(27,276 posts)but not as good end product as high pressure sodium, 1000 watts. Best buds ever, but the electric bill and heat were a problem.
I'd like to try LED. I've talked to some growers who like them better than florescent.

(15,882 posts)have a need to keep the foot print small and the bill down.
I was thinking about trying a small one,may be one of the 400 or 600, see how much worse the performance would be.
Read about the KIND brand, but that gets near $1000 for that size. There is a MARS on ebay that gets good reviews, and is quite a bit cheaper, partly because of the quality.
I really have not much to throw at a test, so I am just casting around for ideas.
Thank you.

(27,276 posts)florescent lights are cheap to buy and run, but the yield is definitely smaller than with HPS. What's kept us from LED's is the cost.

(46,436 posts)since they barely make a dent in my electric bill. I have to grow more plants to make up for the small-sized buds, but I enjoy growing.

(27,276 posts)Can't grow veggies up here in the mountains, but love my little indoor pot garden. 6 plants per adult, completely legal in Colorado.

(46,436 posts)although before we "legalized" it, we could have 24 growing plants, just nowhere to buy. Private possession of cannabis was guaranteed here through a 1975 court case since Alaska's constitution has a really strong privacy clause. Our officials are still working through the whole regulations process here after our vote last year.

(9,666 posts)kinda pricey, but they are highly "rated" and you have to be discreet in Texas.
Anyone here ever used any SuperCloset?
mountain grammy
(27,276 posts)We use a 4x4 grow tent.. Cost about $100 new, I think. We've had ours a long time. Be careful in Texas. Odor control is essential. Good luck.

(9,666 posts)is a big selling point for the SuperCloset.
We could very well end up as Colorado residents in 2016, which would negate the need to negate the smell.

(15,882 posts)in the middle, as well as the light, is for growing lots of clones or plants at the vegetative stage. For flower that tent isn't big enough to accommodate what it can put out in veg. It also does not include the light for flower (at least another $100?, hopefully the ballast is dual), and no exhaust fan - it is critical when they begin to smell. (CAN fan is around $200, plus a filter that's about 8" diameter and 15" long).
That does seem pricey, but I didn't spend a long time with it. AND, I am a maker kind of person, so I tend to build what I can.
Used flourescents for a time, but got a chance at a better tent, light, ballast, fan, filter, cooltube, duct, and a few misc hangers, soil, etc for about $1000. Made a growing table out of pvc with a net strung across. The platform holds rubbermaid 10 gallon roughneck tubs. I start somewhere else, and use discarded laundry soap containers (2 1/2 gallon plastic rectangle) to plant in, put those in the rubbermaid tub.
Duct goes out and up. If you wonder whether a good fan and filter, and proper venting is important, you can ask your neighbors.
Both of those, however, use an HPS light, which burns 600 watt bulbs. Which most people think is relatively easy to spot. The bulbs lose 5-10% of their efficacy in the first year, so they do wear out.
An LED might be better, but most of the affordable ones could result in 1/2 the yield one is used to. Still, better than jail.

(28,136 posts)LEC is the latest. It kicks butt and for the price much better than led and less heat than HID/HPS.
I just got one recently for $473'out the door.

Move that air?
jtuck004
(15,882 posts)sure odor wasn't a problem. Too many years of being careful.
But I forgot to put a lousy recirc fan across the plants. Learned how fast powdery mildew can spread.
So now I have much better circulation. If nothing else, a little fan that swipes across the dirt surface.
One learns...

(28,136 posts)They use cheap components and cheap diodes. Epileds are lower shelf.
Here's a homegrown company that is top of the line. And his light will wipe the floor with those others.
I love my LEC but I almost got 3 of these and hooked them together.
