Pot Arrests Up: 1 Every 45 Seconds Last Year

American law enforcement officers arrested one person for marijuana every 45 seconds in 2014, data released Monday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation show.

The nearly 701,000 marijuana arrests, about 90 percent for possession alone, reveal an increase in busts for the first time since 2009, despite the spread of more lenient laws and policies.

In 2013, by contrast, cops made about 693,000 arrests for possession, sale or production of marijuana, down from an all-time high of 873,000 in 2007.

It’s unclear why the number of arrests increased last year, particularly given the nationwide sea change in attitudes about the status of marijuana and political actions that decriminalized or abolished penalties for possessing the drug.

It appears Democrats have been effectively and institutionally cowed by the GOPers regarding the WOD; to wit, we won't be accused of being Soft on Drugs®, or Soft on (Anything)®.

The Democratic Party is complicit in the WOD's prison-industrial project. The Party's policies on the WOD will change ONLY when activists at the state level keep kicking from below, and when the GOP loses interest in the issue and thereby gives Democrats de facto permission to move as far as the GOP allows.

then head back to bum fuck Kansas to get arrested. I would like to see the states with an increase in arrests. I'm betting on adjacent states to the states that have legalized marijuana.

A not-too-bright friend was arrested while traveling through Georgia last year---she was pulled over for driving erratically then charged with possession. Yep, she was driving while high and smoking. I warned her.

7. End the tyranny and the madness!

Washington Post had a similiar story.

620,000 people for simple possession. And that number is under reported.

1700 people a day are having their rights violated their freedoms and livelihoods threatened. Just for possessing a plant. Land of the brave home of the free but dont get caught with a plant in your pocket or the Government will ruin your life.

This is tyranny. Shameful abuse and exploitation of the citizens of this country by an overreaching corrupt tyrannical government.

20% of this country probably uses Cannabis on occasion. Over 50% of adults have tried it.

Its time to wake up and stop threatening our people's lives for peacefully possessing and growing a plant. It is time to end prohibition. There is no justification that can be made to continue this tyranny against a peaceful minority of people who enjoy a natural herb on occasion.
