Twilight Zone - Heritage Foundation, along w/ Koch Bros, are channeling Warren's "populism"
Posted: 02/02/2015 6:12 pm EST
At the Citizens United Iowa Freedom Summit, I asked Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint what issue would be his organization's top policy priority in the race to 2016. Striking a populist tone, the former South Carolina senator replied that Heritage would be operating under the banner of "opportunity for all, favoritism for none," in a fight against crony capitalism. The same theme has been taken up by billionaire oil baron Charles Koch, without irony.
Mind you that Heritage is a think tank funded largely by wealthy, right-wing foundations and corporations, including many with ties to the Koch brothers, whose political spending is projected to surpass that of either party in the 2016 race. The founding of Heritage was reportedly inspired by the Powell Memo, written by former Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell and addressed to a friend at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It advocated for the business community to become much more politically active and is credited with jumpstarting the rise of the modern conservative movement.
The now-establishment right has been co-opting the populist messaging of the Tea Party and Occupy movements for some time now. Back in 2011, Frank Luntz, the GOP mastermind of messaging who was also in attendance in Iowa, admitted to a meeting of the Republican Governors Association, "I'm so scared of this anti-Wall Street effort. I'm frightened to death. They're having an impact on what the American people think of capitalism."
Luntz advised Republicans to avoid defending it:
"The public ... still prefers capitalism to socialism, but they think capitalism is immoral. And if we're seen as defenders of quote, Wall Street, end quote, we've got a problem."
Seen by many in the Occupy movement as its patron saint, Elizabeth Warren has firmly established herself as the populist crusader against Wall Street in Washington. And while Occupy may be gone, its legacy is alive within Warren, who is so popular with progressives that many are pressing her to run for president against the presumed Democratic frontrunner, Hillary Clinton. Have DeMint, Koch, and Luntz all cast their ideological lots in with Warren to fight cronyism, or is she such a great threat to their interests that are co-opting her message?

I think we have a MILLION TONS of BULLSHIT coming our way over the next 2 years....

(7,830 posts)How could anyone believe them now??? Their stripes are shown. Cat is out of the bag....
Although people are easily led by the media. I mean, this is off topic here, but what the hell is going on regarding vaccinations? Did a kid die? I don't watch mainstream media, so maybe I missed something? Why all the vaccine talk now? That Disney World thing?
It seems like they're trying to distract us, like maybe from talking about the TPP?
Just looking at the GD, I see a manipulated public...very malleable. Not good.

(12,712 posts)WASHINGTON DC: At a press conference today, Mr. Fox said, "My main concern is the safety of the coop and the well being of every hen and cock. Bringing prosperity and more grain to the roost is a key note of my candidacy. We can't have starving chickens working hard on egg production while depriving them deprive them of a living wage, would be in bad taste. The flavor of this campaign will change the pecking order and make more chickens upper crust while adding more spice to life for them."
Mr. Fox left then left the podium licking his lips as drool cascaded down his cheeks, which probably indicated that he would really savor his position in government if elected.

(11,619 posts)It is conceivable that the sheer mass of Bullshit will cause politics in America to collapse into a bullshit singularity that will suck everthing into the first ever Kochhole from which nothing but the super rich can escape.

(3,533 posts)Kinda sounds like "Hope and Change" with too many words.
Wait until the Thirdwayers bring out, Opportunity for America, no one left behind. Maybe then all will see they are one in the same. If anyone calls them out after being elected, they can just point to Obama's hollow campaign promises.
In the bigger picture, what does it say about the numbers of populist voters? We've been told were this insignificant itsy-bitsy group that should get in line with the anti-people dem party or go Independent. Now we have a RW think tank producing populist slogans to attract the flimsy in us.
The 2014 elections revealed that the anti-people dems don't have enough voters to even elect their own Blue Dogs. With an abstract slogan "Hope and Change" we turned the tides by coming out in droves, OUR #'S MATTER
Now the repubs know this and it is time to switch the inner-dem conversation to YOU NEED US MORE THAN WE NEED YOU!!!!
It's time to get tough. If they demand our vote for HRC in the general, we demand them to clear the way in the primaries(no CorporateDem funded candidates) for populist victories. Make our votes count with this Grand Dem Compromise.

(7,830 posts)AND who can also raise enough money to campaign in the GE. The private funding nature of the beast pretty much demands at this point Big Money purchase of candidates.
Although Warren did raise more campaign money for candidates she stumped for than anyone else 2014...she seems to be the only real possible contender to She Who Must Not Be Named, and yet she's un-contended herself.
(Plug for Bernie -He WILL get my primary vote if he runs & Liz doesn't. But it would take some seriously divine intervention for him to win the nom & most certainly the GE.)
Its all really disheartening.
Hope Warren changes her mind...

I am encouraged. The public is getting something right.

(62,325 posts)least one of them admitted it. And they SHOULD be.
Btw, OWS is not gone, but the MSM doesn't cover ordinary people, so no surprise people think it's gone.
Warren was a huge supporter of Occupy, and met with them and listened to them and GOT what they were about.
No wonder there was such an effort to discredit that Movement. They showed the corrupt Wall St bankers that contrary to what they were hoping, the people DO know what they are up to.
I think that was the first phase of a movement that is going to grow the more BS we hear with no action.
WATCH WHAT THEY DO! What the say means zero.
Someone needs to tell them, they have to stop trying to figure out ways to fool us, we are not children and more and more of us are wide awake to their lies and deceptions, no matter what 'message' they deliver.
We don't want think tank 'messages'. And we are looking at their RECORDS not listening to their words.
