Kansas State women advance to Sweet 16 with OT win over Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kansas State women are headed to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2002 after their overtime win vs. Kentucky.

Temira Poindexter led the way for the Wildcats with 24 points, six rebounds and six blocks. Serena Sundell added 19 points and 14 assists, setting up the table for her teammates. Ayoka Lee finished with 16 points and nine rebounds and Kennedy Taylor added 11 points off the bench.

Sophomore center Clara Strack led Kentucky with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Kentucky jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but K-State responded immediately with a 7-0 run to tie the game. Kentucky had a 20-15 lead at the end of the first.

K-State had a much improved second quarter. They closed the first half on a 10-2 run capped off by free throws from Taylor. K-State took a 33-31 lead into halftime.
