Phoenix Mercury sign 2-time WNBA champion

PHOENIX — A new face is headed to the Footprint Center: the Phoenix Mercury have signed two-time WNBA champion Sami Whitcomb for next season.

Whitcomb helped lead the Seattle Storm to two WNBA titles in 2018 and 2020, and she ranks second in WNBA history in threes made off the bench, according to a news release from the Mercury.

“Sami is a savvy guard who can spread the floor with her shooting and does all the little things,” Mercury general manager Nick U’Ren said in a news release. “Her veteran and championship experience will be a big boost to our team.”

The eight-year WNBA veteran joins the Mercury after playing in all 40 games for Seattle, averaging 5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 15.3 minutes per game, the news release said.
