Lakers get Luka Doncic, Mavs get Anthony Davis. There are a few other players involved and a distant draft pick, but no one important, really.
Everyone - including Lebron James - seems to be shocked. Dallas bigwigs are saying they love the defense Davis brings to their team, and it's fair to point out that Doncic is hurt at the moment. But a 25 year old scoring leader for a 32 year old seems to be unequal, to say the least.

(6,958 posts)suffer defensively as it is in the other positions on the floor. The idea of needing to score huge points every game because you can't play any effective defense is about as short-sighted as can be. But it does highlight a general problem in so many of today's NBA players, coaches and front office people.
Pitch up 3 point shots like no tomorrow but almost nobody can shoot a decent percentage from mid-range. It also partly explains not hitting free-throws. But in a league where Giannis, for example, gets to pick up his dribble just inside the 3 point line and then take 4 steps to the basket and have the play considered an example of "greatness" the idea that any of this should "make sense" is not even in the picture.

(2,464 posts)I just can’t believe this is real, even though Luka is hurt.
The NBA just turned on its head. This has the chance to be the next Nets/Celtics trade.
And for all the criticism Rob Pelinka gets, did he just pull off a heist.

(18,345 posts)Luka is going to be the new face of the franchise.
AD gets to play his preferred position, and probably will work better with the guards. Expect to see Kyrie's scoring and usage rate going up.
