EuroLeague rejected NBA's partnership proposal
Last year, officials from both the NBA and EuroLeague met to explore the possibility of a partnership, as the NBA looked to expand its influence into Europe.
The NBA was interested in collaborating with the established EuroLeague as part of its plans for a new European league, according to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic.
However, the EuroLeague rejected the NBA’s proposal, largely because it was unwilling to surrender control over its operations.
A EuroLeague executive shared with The Athletic that the NBA essentially wanted “the heart and the head” – meaning they wanted to take over not only the operational leadership but also the strategic decision-making that drives the league.
