Texas A&M women's basketball: A complete Aggies offense gives A&M win over No. 11 Kentucky
The Texas A&M women's basketball team pulled off the biggest upset of its season in a 61-55 win over the No. 11 Kentucky Wildcats on Thursday in College Station.
The Aggies' smothering defense was too much for the Wildcats (16-2, 5-1 SEC), who did not have one of their best nights on offense. Kentucky came into the game shooting 45.9% from the field this season but shot 31.3% against A&M.
With the Wildcats leading 46-42 going into the fourth quarter, Aicha Coulibaly's jumper gave the Aggies' offense some life. But Kentucky forward Teonni Key, who finished with 20 points, made the Wildcats' only 3-point shot to extend their lead to 49-44.
Coulibaly's and forward Lauren Ware's presence on the inside proved difficult to manage for the Wildcats, and A&M closed the gap with free throws and short field goals to add 30 points in the paint. Coulibaly finished the night with 21 points, and Ware had 10.
