Virginia Tech retires Elizabeth Kitley's jersey
BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – On Sunday January 9, 2025 Virginia Tech officially retired former Virginia Tech basketball star Elizabeth Kitley’s no.33 basketball jersey.
During halftime of Virginia Tech’s basketball game against Louisville, Kitley was joined by her family, former teammates, and fans as Virginia Tech unveiled her jersey banner in the rafters and celebrated her achievements on Carilion Center Court.
“Seeing it up there will force it to sink in right now but it just seems like a lofty dream I guess that I never would’ve associated with myself I guess. But I’m having to do that now and it’s really cool. But mainly it makes me really excited to bring my family back here from years and year to come because something so permanent,” says Kitley.
The all-time leader in scoring, minutes, and games started posted the most double figure scoring games in program history as well as field goals made. Kitley played five seasons as Hokie, while ushering in a new era in Virginia Tech basketball history.
