I think they're stuck with him. Who wants a guard who can't shoot and shies away from the ball in the fourth quarter crunch time because he can't make free throws?
Nobody.
It's Simmons fault IMO...blessed with 6'10", he should've been working on his shooting since he came into the league five years ago. He could've been a stretch four, another Rasheed Wallace...minus all the tech fouls of course.
He didn't put in the work.

(2,133 posts)He would have never been another Rasheed Wallace. Scorers have a confidence that they can score since they were young. That is what makes them scorers. He could have been a 15 point guard at best.

(57,517 posts)improved their scoring, Jason Kidd for example, and their confidence improves. I do agree Simmons could become a 15 ppg contributor, but with a better chance of getting there as a forward as that's where his scoring comes from now, in the paint.
Philly does need to get rid of him though as the paint is Imbied's territory. They just get in each's others way. The Sixers need a normal point guard who can score and make a good percentage of free throws.

(2,133 posts)Thing but Wallace was a beast his entire career dating back to college. Jason Kidd was very fast and a great passer. Simmons is okay in a fast break offense unfortunately the Sixers is not one of those teams. When he didnt dunk on Trey Young I concluded he was done.

(57,517 posts)and athletic ability, he could've been special. IMO he's lazy and didn't work on scoring. At that height and able to move and dribble, he could be dominating as a forward. His quickness and long first step will get him past most and give him a path to the rim where he can then lay it up, dunk it, or pass it off as he's a good passer.
He plays the wrong position. Dr. J, the Sixer great, was not a great shooter but was a great scorer with his dunks and moves to the hoop. Simmons should've modeled his game on someone like the Doctor.
If he had grown up in the US and played high school and playground ball, he would've been played in his natural position, a forward/center. as he would've been one of the tallest guys on the court on most teams. Other guys would've been the guards.
It's probably too late now to change but it's pretty obvious he's shouldn't be playing guard. But he should at least work on his shooting.

(17,469 posts)No one is going to pick that up, he's not worth it. Sixers payroll is a mess, Harris makes 34 million next year, he's overpaid like Simmons.
