Actually, it was a "compromised" choice. I really wanted a white choco raspberry latte, so I did 4 oz of the latte and 4 oz of black coffee. I had a bit of sausage, egg, cheese, and a small handful of almonds. Sooo, 2 hours after eating, I tested my glucose - 211. Should have been down around 140 or less by then. I went into the ladies room and did something called hoe-downs - 2 sets - walked around our office for a couple of laps, did another 2 sets of hoe-downs and drank 20 oz. of water. 40 min. passed before I rechecked my numbers. Hoe-downs, like any activity are supposed to bring down numbers. In 40 min. I went from 211 to 141.
Awesome that it worked. I definitely won't be doing that latte mix again. It was good, but certainly not that good.
If you want to know what a hoe-down is, it's like this low-impact stepping exercise. Doesn't take very long (~3 min for 2 sets). If you google "hoe-downs", you should get a hit for youTube.
Now, home to a more balanced low-carb lunch

(12,285 posts)It is amazing how each of us react BG wise to different foods. Some of us can eat grapes without issue and others BG will go through the roof. That's why testing is so important - so we know what can hurt us and what will not.

(12,199 posts)I use the Accucheck to record/chart my morning numbers for the dr. That's the one she wrote a script for the strips for, but apparently insurance only covers 300 strips in a year since I'm on Metformin only. She feels I should be only testing in the a.m. I feel safer eating to the monitor - especially when I try new foods or combos. I bought a Contour Next monitor. Results seem to be within 10-12 points of the Accu-check, but the Contour strips run about 25 cents per strip rather than over a $1.
I just got my A1C rechecked. I was at 8.4 in January. Last week it came back as 6.4. The dr. was ecstatic and told me to keep doing whatever I was doing.
I agree about the differences in what individuals can eat. My nutritionist kept pushing oatmeal on me, but it spikes me something fierce - even with added protein and fiber.

(12,285 posts)gave me the impression that they really hated food. the 3 of them looked anorexic. All of them were pushing the ADA's (outmoded in my opinion) high carb low fat diet. I have been on a LCHF diet for years and it has improved all my numbers, BG, Lipids and blood pressure. I know this is anecdotal but they won't do the studies to test LCHF against HCLF.
Great A1C drop. There is a great board for us, Diabetic Connect. All kind of people post there; the newly diagnoses and old hands.

(5,264 posts)got a reading if 130 before breakfast. Had a breakfast with a goodly amount of carbs (hash browns, piece of toast) I went grocery shopping and started feeling weird, Checked it when I got home, and it was down to 60. No idea why. Got that taken care of, then fell off the porch and broke my shoulder and elbow. (nothing to do with my blood sugar)

(12,199 posts)I'm sending this as I sit in my Drs office. I had broken and dislocated my shoulder last March (darned dog), had rotator cuff surgery in January and am finally down to PT 2x per month to check on my strength building. It was a lot of work, but my range of motion did come back to almost 100%.
Wishing you the best! Glad you got that 60 glucose number up as well! You may already know this, but if they give you a cortisone shot, be prepared for your sugar to go whacky for awhile afterwards.

(5,264 posts)cortizone shots in that shoulder already, due to a torn rotator cuff. I did get some pain meds. My other medication restricts what OTC stuff I can take (e.g no ibuprofin) and the meds they gave me contain acatomenaphin already, so I can't take Tylenol. either. Can't remember when I was in so much pain. I'm going to require surgery on my shoulder to put some screws in.
