Lotsa of Stephens novels are very hard to get on the screen .and when they arrive, the dont always match the storyline of Stephens writings. Christine was a very good adaptation of what the novel was. Loved it.

(8,641 posts)...but Steven King books are always better than the movie.
Christine/Carrie/Cujo are all in the same ballpark, I'd give them 3/5 stars. There are a LOT of stinkers.
The original Pet Sematary is probably the best all-around film adaptation.
The Shining is a masterpiece, but Kubrick took a LOT of liberties. It is not faithful to the book.
The original IT miniseries was quite good, I didn't see the need to reboot it. The Stand miniseries was good, but I didn't read the book and was a bit lost.
Creepshow really worked on film. The episodic reboot of that is pretty weak.

(14,655 posts)The '58 Plymouth was my FIRST car.. What a tank.. Two door just like in the movie. Pushbutton automatic and a 318 V8 hemi. I would ask to check the gas and fill it up with oil... And, yes.. it was haunted...
Scared the shit out of me when I stepped on the brakes.. The brake gods were fickle.
Hey, what do you want for $25....

(11,686 posts)with"Dream Catcher". I must admit that sometimes I watch the movie before reading the book so I can enjoy the movie. After you read the book the movie is never as good but going to the movie with no knowledge can be good for awile.

(12,559 posts)I haven't seen it in years. The Steven King movie adaptions are a mixed bag. I like Carrie 1976, The Shining 1980, Stand by Me, The Green Mile, IT: miniseries and movies, and The Stand: original miniseries. I tried to watch the new version of The Stand and was lost. And I've read the book multiple times!
Delores Claibourne is excellent and very underrated. Maximum Overdrive gets an honorable mention for good cheesy fun and a kick ass soundtrack. Salem's Lot, Silver Bullet and Misery were also decent.
Some of the others range from average to downright bad.

SPOILER ALERT re the video below. This contains a lot of later scenes from the film after the first 30 seconds or so. I like this particular video because it has the entire song, and because it's a great reminder of why I really liked the film.

(3,452 posts)My favorite movie adaptation of a Stephen King story is "The Shawshank Redemption". That movie was riveting, and right on the money.
