I saw "1917" last night. Powerful movie.

Grim, as you'd expect. But not overly gory. I've seen other movies that were done in one take/shot and the technique seemed to get in the way of the story. But in this film, it was barely noticeable. And I can see why the director used it. It was very effective.

WWII movies are a dime a dozen. Movies about World War I are much rarer. Incredible cinematography in this one.

2. Agree. I'd like to see the documentary they made using colorized footage from the war.

As I recall, it was called something like "They Will Never Die." I saw a few clips from it and it looked amazing.

5. The movie in question

"1917" won the producers guild award last night for best movie. Congratulations, so I guess that makes it the front runner for Oscar's best movie. A win at the directors guild awards next week and BAFTA next month will surely help it's chances winning the Best Movie Oscar.

6. If I were to describe it in one word

that word would be "riveting." The movie just flew by because I was so engrossed in the story. The one take approach does not feel gimmicky. Folks involved with this movie need to clear some Oscar space on their mantles.
