Trailers that promise the opposite of what the film delivers.

Anyone ever see those YouTube videos that create a humorous fake trailer by cherry-picking scenes to create the impression of a film that's the exact opposite of the actual movie?

Someone did 'Mary Poppins' as a horror film, and 'The Shining' as a comedy.

The thing is, people have make trailers for actual films that offer an impression of the film that is wildly different from the film itself.

I remember the trailer for 'Brassed Off'; it made the film out to be a quirky, cute British rom-com, when it turned out to be a relatively dark, bitter film about labor unrest.

The trailer for 'The Road To Wellville' made the film come across as a fun period musical (there were no musical numbers in the film, but the trailer showed one scene of the characters singing in unison, and made it look like a musical number) instead of the black comedy satire it was.

1. then there are the attractions for bad movies where anything good is in the trailer!

2. I haven't really noticed misleading trailers.

But, my complaint with trailers is how much of he film they give away. They just include too many details in them and they go on far too long. I read sometime back they do that so that people thinking of "investing" in a ticket will feel comfortable making their purchase knowing what they're about to get. I just find it damn annoying.

3. Lars and the Real Girl

The trailer implied that it was about a guy, Ryan Gosling, having a sexual relationship
with a plastic doll. I assume they did that to draw in more people.

In reality the movie is very complex and is about a guy who has trouble connecting and
buys a plastic doll so he can have a relationship with somebody. His family and the town
people understand and support him and go along with the ruse that she is real. Eventually
he learns how to relate and becomes attracted to and involved with a real human girl.

The movie is lovely. I bought it. I've watched it several times and had an evening with
friends (10 of them) where we discussed the themes in the movie. Profundity to the max.

As a psychologist, I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to know about relationships,
family, community and love.
