I thought it was fantastic. I hadn't read the book and had no idea what to expect. Great acting and cinematography. The scenes in Antarctica were gorgeous. Highly recommended.

I kept wishing I could have gone farther to the continent and south when I went to Antarctica.

(6,436 posts)It excised huge chunks of the novel and the narrative was problematic. Structurally, it was a mess.
"Don't trust critics" is the same as "don't trust experts" when you get down to it. You have to partially realize that they're looking at a film different from how a regular viewer will, just like experts will in their own field.

I liked the narrative and structure, thought they worked well.
Oh, well.
