ROKU and movies.

There must be MILLIONS of free movies on ROKU channels.
Many with NO commercials (YOUTUBE).
We cut the cable a month ago.
Our phone/DSL/DIsh bill went from $195 to $35.

I paid $R30 for the ROKU stick, one time payment period.
I pay $40/mo for YOUTUBE TV (not to be confused with free YOUTUBE).
For that I get local channels hometown (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc.) and MSNBC, CNN, CNBC and more.
Still get AMC, TCM, Bravo, FX, FXX, SYFY, all the channels I liked on Dish.
No brainer.

1. Yep. We did the same in January. Added YTTV's Showtime package for $7 a month.

Our bill went from $136 to $47.

We also have amazon prime and Netflix, which just went up to $12.99 a month.

We have Roku on two TVs. Every once in while, things go crazy. I have found two easy fixes for almost any Roku problem:

1. unplug the power cord from the stick for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. If that doesn't fix things,

2. delete the app from your TV and reinstall.

2. Wow! Much better than some of the other guys...

My cable bill is up to $260 month now, and dropping HBO, Showtime and other stuff would save me about 20 bucks and still give me over 500 channels I will never watch. The infinite cloud storage would seal the deal.

I have had a Roku box for years for Netflix and other goodies, so another use for it.

So, the cable company is still the only internet company out here, and I would keep the cable phone because local cell service sucks (yeah, I know about VOIP services, but the cable phone is still a good deal.) Would drop the bill to under a hundred for everything.

Except PBS.

7. I'm a cordcutter, too. Youtube has a lot of stuff, including historical documentaries.

I was looking in Netflix and Prime Video for British monarchy documentaries, but I couldn't find any for certain eras or kings/queens. I even checked the free documentary channels on Roku.

When I checked Youtube, there they all were! Tons of top quality documentaries about the kinds and queens of England.

Youtube has movies and some old tv series, too (incl. PBS series). It's a great resource.

Note that some of the movies on Youtube are in the free Roku app/channel PopcornFlix.

I have an antenna to get some basic network channels, to have a FREE tv anchor that doesn't use data, since I have a data cap.

8. I've been watching a lot of BBC on YouTube.

Mystery/detective series, sitcoms, etc.

9. I'll look for those. I found Duchess of Duke Street on Youtube...

That was an old but popular BBC Masterpiece series, only 2 seasons. Prime Video only has season 1. I found many (not all) of the episodes of season 2.

I'll look for the mystery series. I get a lot of those on Prime and Netflix already. Midsomer Murders if my favorite. All the seasons (before the last one) are there.

10. We just dropped DirecTV last week.

We already had Hulu as a gift from my son so we got a couple of Roku boxes and went to work. We had Netflix, have had it for years and prime. I cannot think of anything else we would ever need. My only problem is not being able to see a list of things that are showing and show times and I miss being able to click a button and see the cast list. It is worth every penny saved to have to look it up on my computer or phone. We are very happy, bill is more than half less than what it was.
